Enjoy! Booker T Washington opened up their 2021 football season in the OKC area on Thursday night with a 51-7 victory over Southmoore. While it took a while for the Hornets to start clicking, once they did, it was very clear that Southmoore was outgunned and the Hornets rolled. In case you missed our free game recap, you can check that out HERE. It features a complete recap of the game, the biggest turning point, the player of the game, some quotes and a look ahead at what’s next for both teams. For now, we dive a little deeper with the scouting report, looking at several standouts on both sides of the ball. Not only do we break down the games they had on Thursday night, but we discuss how they look as a prospect for the next level. [player_tooltip player_id="98173" first="Demitrius" last="Prudom"] - 2023 Tight End/Linebacker We came into this game knowing plenty about [player_tooltip player_id="98173" first="Demitrius" last="Prudom"] but apparently not enough! We have Prudom rated fairly high in the 2023 class as a tight end prospect. However, we’re starting to expand that thought and he might potentially be on the defensive side of the ball at the next level. We’ll start there with his performance on Thursday night on defense. Prudom lined up as a linebacker and would also be a standing defensive end that came off the edge in a hurry. Prudom was all over the place on defense and would make tackle after tackle. He was so explosive and quick that Southmoore’s offensive line really struggled to contain Prudom and keep him from getting to whoever had the ball. The Hornets have several players like that who are just too athletic to contain but Prudom is now one of them on the defensive side of the ball. On the offensive end, Prudom is a physical threat at the tight end position. He caught an amazing 30+ yard touchdown in the back of the end zone where quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="69271" first="Lathan" last="Boone"] trusted him by just tossing it up. Prudom was in the back of the end zone with two Southmoore defenders and it didn’t matter as he was the one who came down with it and kept his feet in bounds as all three players would eventually spill out of the back of the end zone. We still have Prudom listed as a tight end but we were very impressed with what we saw from him on defense. [player_tooltip player_id="38668" first="Gentry" last="Williams"] - 2022 Defensive Back There was a very good media contingent on Thursday night for the season opener. A few of them were there to cover the game and then others were there to see 2022 standout [player_tooltip player_id="38668" first="Gentry" last="Williams"]. He is the top rated recruit in Oklahoma’s 2022 class and he is also uncommitted. But more than anything, Williams is back on the field in a game for the first time in nearly a year. After tearing his ACL against Del City in week one last year, Williams missed basically his entire junior season. Williams was cleared and back to 100% earlier this year but this was the first time that he would be put in a game situation against live competition. He sat out of the Jenks Preview scrimmage last week with the intention of being ready to go on Thursday. Williams took a shot during the game when he caught a pass from quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="69271" first="Lathan" last="Boone"] and it looked like it knocked the wind out of him. He would leave for a few plays but came back in the game. That’s what he was waiting for. That’s what the Booker T Washington coaches were waiting for. Williams needed to get hit, and get hit hard, and know that he’s okay. Head coach Jonathan Brown acknowledged that after the game. Williams is back to 100% but he has to trust it. On defense, he certainly trusted his abilities as he and the Hornet secondary had a stretch where they forced eight straight Southmoore passes that were either incompletions or interceptions. With Williams getting his confidence back, that’s bad news for Hornet opponents. [player_tooltip player_id="110740" first="Issac" last="Covington"] - 2024 Athlete Booker T Washington super sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="110740" first="Issac" last="Covington"] is Booker T Washington’s secret weapon. Pretty soon, it won’t be a secret at all. Covington did a little bit of everything for the Hornets on Thursday night. He was a playmaker on the defensive side of the ball and also played a little offense in the second half, adding more depth for the Hornets at the running back position. And when he gets the ball in his hands, he’s an absolute nightmare as he runs incredibly hard, a running style that is very similar to 2022 running back [player_tooltip player_id="38760" first="Ethan" last="Washington"], who also had a strong night running the ball. On defense, Covington was at his best as he played very close to the line of scrimmage in almost a hybrid linebacker type position. In fact, for the majority of the game, the Hornets were in a simple man to man defense and all 11 players were right up on the line of scrimmage. No defender was further than seven yards off the line of scrimmage. When you have the cats that Booker T Washington has, you can pull off something like that. We’ve been fairly high on Covington as a defensive prospect for nine months now and he kicked off this season with a bang. He had an interception on defense and numerous tackles as the Hornets were lights out on defense. [player_tooltip player_id="57047" first="Jaden" last="King"] - 2022 Defensive Back Booker T Washington’s [player_tooltip player_id="57047" first="Jaden" last="King"] was one of the breakout stars of the 2020 football season. With injuries plaguing the Hornets, they needed someone to step up and it ended up being King. He had a game where he finished with four interceptions and ended his junior season as one of the state’s best ball hawks. Well, he got his senior season off to a great start with another interception. He had a pick in the second half that led to another Booker T Washington touchdown just two plays later. King also had to leave the game after cramping up but he wouldn’t miss too much time and came back in. That will be the prevailing key with this Hornet football team throughout the 2021 football season. They are one of the most talented teams in the state, but. And that but will always be followed by the lack of depth and how they can’t afford to have any injuries. King was fine last night and he picked up right where he left off from his junior season. King was one of several lockdown corners for the Hornets on Thursday night and another thing that will be mentioned time and time again about the Hornets is the talent in the secondary. Southmoore quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="38710" first="Noah" last="Peters"] is a decent quarterback and he should have a really good year this fall. However, he could do absolutely nothing against King and this Hornet secondary. [player_tooltip player_id="69271" first="Lathan" last="Boone"] - 2023 Quarterback The junior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="69271" first="Lathan" last="Boone"] was our selection for Player Of The Game after he threw for 231 yards and a pair of touchdowns and only had two incompletions on the evening. And honestly, it should have been only one incompletion, with more yards and a third passing touchdown. Come on [player_tooltip player_id="47959" first="Micah" last="Tease"], you gotta catch that. But Boone was wildly efficient with the football and that was a welcomed sight to see as he opens up his junior season. Boone had a really strong showing last year as a sophomore and it’s fairly obvious that he’s put a lot of work in this offseason to be more of a leader and he certainly has a better understanding of the offense. Now, when you’re throwing the ball to guys like [player_tooltip player_id="47959" first="Micah" last="Tease"], [player_tooltip player_id="38668" first="Gentry" last="Williams"], [player_tooltip player_id="98173" first="Demitrius" last="Prudom"] and several others, it can appear to be a very easy evening. Boone is blessed to have arguably the best skill players in the state to have as his wide receivers. However, it doesn’t take away from his presence in the backfield. He could be labeled as a "game manager" but we don’t see that. He can make some big throws in spots that only his wide receivers can make the play. It’s just week zero but Boone is off to a fantastic start to his junior season. [player_tooltip player_id="47959" first="Micah" last="Tease"] - 2023 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back And our final prospect on this scouting report is another highly touted recruit. Junior standout [player_tooltip player_id="47959" first="Micah" last="Tease"] is a top five recruit in Oklahoma and after torching Southmoore last year in the season opener, he picked up right where he left off in their meeting a year ago and did it again. He was the leading receiver for Booker T Washington with five catches for 131 yards and an 87-yard touchdown. He also had another 50+ yard touchdown go in and out of his hands. We mentioned that above with his quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="69271" first="Lathan" last="Boone"]. Tease was a complete game changer on the offensive side of the ball and we’ve had him ranked as one of the best wide receivers in the state’s 2023 class for a while now. However, this offseason, the momentum started to swing and Tease was being recruited by some of the nation’s top programs. But he was being recruited on the defensive side of the ball as a defensive back. He played plenty of DB on Thursday night as well. He would line up more as a safety, even though the Hornets didn’t really have a traditional safety as the entire team as about five to seven yards off the line of scrimmage on every single play. Tease just added another element to this "No Fly Zone" defense that the Hornets have. But nevertheless, we still feel like Tease is the best wide receiver in the 2023 class and on Thursday he was the top playmaker in the Hornet offense.
