THIS WEEK’S TOP STORIES
Commitment Alert!
We had three total commitments in the last week as two 2022 prospects announced commitments and the top overall 2023 prospect became the first 2023 prospect to commit. We’ll start right there as Bixby 2023 tight end
Luke Hasz

OK
tweeted out his commitment to stay in-state and play at OU. Hasz is the top rated prospect in the state’s 2023 class and is the first and only commitment in that class. Over the summer, Hasz announced a list of top eight schools but it didn’t take very long for him to announce his commitment. In recruiting circles, you can see that OU is having an outstanding start to the 2023 class. Many national outlets have them rated as the top 2023 class in the country and Hasz is a big part of that. Not only is he Oklahoma’s top overall prospect, he’s arguably the best tight end prospect in the country and has already committed to play in the 2022 Under Armour All American game.
We had two more offers last week as well and it started with Yukon 2022 offensive lineman Lane Parks Lane Parks 6'5" | 275 lbs | OL Yukon | 2022 State OK committing to Army. Later in the week, Norman North 2022 quarterback Gavin Frakes Gavin Frakes 6'4" | 210 lbs | QB Norman North | 2022 State OK committed to Princeton. Parks is one of the top rated offensive linemen in the state and he will fit in quite well with Army. Obviously, the Black Knights run the option offense and Parks is more than familiar with being a lineman in that style of offense with his time at Yukon. For Frakes, he was widely recruited by several Ivy League schools and settled on Princeton. after an outstanding offseason, we think that Frakes could be a breakout star for Norman North this fall. That could end up giving him some more opportunities in the future. But for now, he’s committed to Princeton. With the commitments of Parks and Frakes, the state’s 2022 class is now up to 25 commitments with 24 being to D1 programs.
First Offer Alert!
One of the more underrated prospects in the state’s 2022 class is Owasso wide receiver
JaRay Austin

Austin

Owasso | 2022
State
OK
. And it’s pretty simple to understand why it’s taken a little bit for his recruitment to take off. He’s several inches south of 6’0 and because of that, things have been slow in the recruitment department. But anyone who has actually seen Austin play knows that he could be an impact player. He’s playing at the highest level of high school football in Oklahoma with the Owasso offense and has been a steady contributor for two seasons now. Last week, one school finally pulled the trigger and offered Austin as he reported an offer from Army. Whether he ends up at the D1 level or not, Austin is one of the better wide receivers in the state. And the size questions aren’t really an issue when he’s running past every defender he comes across as you’ll see in his junior tape.
Freeman Reopening His Recruitment
One of the most electric playmakers is back on the market after about a month of being committed. Heritage Hall 2022 standout
Gavin Freeman

Heritage Hall | 2022

tweeted out last week that he would be reopening his recruitment after he committed to Air Force last month. We mentioned it on Twitter but we’ll follow it up and go a little deeper here. Freeman is one of the best players in Oklahoma’s 2022 class. His recruitment has been limited because of questions about his size. However, we’ve made this comparison in the past and we’ll make it again. Owasso 2023 wide receiver
Cole Adams

is very similar in size and playing style. Adams has multiple FBS offers and the same should be said about Freeman. Whoever ends up taking a chance on Freeman is going to benefit from it immediately.
McClellan Narrows Choices After Busy Summer
Owasso 2022 defensive lineman and All American
Chris McClellan

has been all over the country this summer. He’s been on official visits, unofficial visits and seeing what college football’s best has to offer. And when it was time to narrow down his options, McClellan’s top six are some of the best programs in college football. He named his top six last week and they are Alabama, Florida, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma and USC. McClellan was selected to the All American game this offseason and absolutely blew up during the winter and spring. He was recruited by and offered by colleges all over the country. The best of the best recruited the Owasso standout and his Top 6 represents that.
