Continue ReadingWindsor high school has been very impressive all off-season starting with the home-run hire of legendary California coach Paul Cronin who left Cardinal Newman back in the Spring. The Jaguars had tons of success in the Spring season and are looking to build off some big time wins over some of the top schools in the Greater North Bay. With lots of returners on both sides of the ball and a veteran signal caller poised for a huge Senior season, it should be a big season for Windsor. Here, we will breakdown some of their top players and key weapons heading into the Fall for the Jaguars.
QB Chase Vehmeyer, 2022
Vehmeyer is one of the most talented quarterbacks in the Bay Area and is poised for a huge Senior season while also having some good weapons at his disposal. He is a very high IQ player that reads defenses well and goes through his progressions quickly while possessing a quick release and impressive lower body/hip mechanics. Very mobile in the pocket, he shows good awareness under pressure and can throw on the run into tight windows while also having nice touch and velocity on his deep ball and throwing his receivers open downfield. He also has sneaky open field speed and shows good lateral movement skills with the ability to make defenders miss in the open field and has natural forward lean while running behind his pads in traffic.
WR Makhi Johnson, 2022
Makhi is one of the most under-recruited prospects in Northern California and has the size, speed and frame to be a big time receiver in college. A true vertical threat that can stretch the field, he is strong handed in traffic and wins 50/50 balls consistently while boxing out smaller defenders and attacking the ball in the air. He also shows good body control against double coverage and good foot speed out of his breaks while baiting defenders to lunge and attack early and often. In the coming months, he should see colleges begin to take interest as he is one of the best WR available in the region.
DE Dominic Roderick, 2022
Roderick is one of the most dominant defensive lineman in the North Bay and anchors both the inside and edge for the Jaguars. Having good size and lower body strength with an explosive first step, he plays with heavy and active hands while controlling blockers at their chest and violently able to get off blocks while closing quickly on ball carriers. A high motor player that plays both the run and pass well, he is a college level prospect and will be very active this Fall.
RB/LB Joey Skinner, 2022
Skinner is a downhill bruising back that runs North and South while also able to catch the ball out of the backfield with good body control and from various different angles with soft hands. Running behind his pads and with a natural forward lean, he looks for contact through the hole and runs through arm/ankle tackles consistently. On defense, he is a physical player that tackles through his target and plugs holes quickly while able to scrape over the top when needed.
RB Damian Escarcega, 2022
Part of a very successful one two punch for the Jaguars, Escarcesa is one of the top backs in the North Bay and will have a huge Senior season. On tape, he has a strong initial burst while displaying good vision through the first level and some sneaky third level speed in the open field. A compact runner, he runs low to the ground and keeps his feet turning upon contact while consistently gaining positive yards. Between him and Skinner, the backfield for the jaguars will be loaded and one of the best in the region.
