Olentangy won back-to-back Home playoff games before they hit the road and fell short. The Braves lost some key pieces, but they have some young and up-and-coming players that they think can make an impact. The goal is to get back to the playoffs and pick up where they left off.
Coaching Staff
The Olentangy Braves are led by Head Coach Mark Solis. Solis is a teacher at Olentangy and he uses that job as a way to stay close to his players and build those relationships. He tends to be more of a player’s coach. He’s a high-energy guy and his players feed off of that. He’s helped build Olentangy into a respectable program and help put them on the map. They are competitive in every game they play and they fight until the clock strikes 0.
Key Players Heading Into 2021
The Braves lost Kaden Doup to graduation. Doup played all over the field for the Braves, including QB. The Braves have 2 very young QBs that they like, so they feel as though they are in a good spot. Ethan Grunkemeyer is heading into his sophomore year. He will be the starter this year to start the year. He’s spent his summer working in 7 on 7 camps and training to be the guy. He’s 6’1″ and 175 lbs. We only have a little tape of him but what we do have is promising.
The other QB that Olentangy has is Brady Beaumont. While he isn’t projected to start, he’s a good player in his own right. He’s able to stand in the pocket and deliver a strike when he needs to. He isn’t a great athlete and doesn’t play with very much anticipation. If anything were to happen to Ethan, they believe Brady is more than ready to step in and play at a high level.
The offensive weapons are led by Dubby Agudosi. Agudosi is a 6’2″ and 190 lbs who plays into every inch of that frame. He has very soft hands and guides the ball in and cradles it. They like to get him in space because he can make guys miss. He’s reliable and makes plays every chance he gets. He’s going to be big for Grunkemeyer heading into his first year starting.
2021 Schedule
Olentangy starts their campaign this Friday at home against Westerville South at 7 PM. The Braves then hit the road in back-to-back weeks where they will face Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin and Lancaster. They then return home for 1 week before they turn back around and hit the road. The Braves finish their season at home against Marysville on October 22nd at 7 PM.
