Byron Center travels more than 2 hours to face Seaholm in this non-league cross-state that matchup that will undoubtedly have major implications on both team’s seasons. With the great talent on the field, in addition to both head coaches having gone to graduate school together, this matchup is going to be a fun one.
Players to watch
Jack Trinch, RB Seaholm – I’m very confident that Trinch is going to make strides in his game this season, as he was recently named team captain. As a junior, Trinch played his role well being used mostly in the slot often motioning across the field either as a decoy or the primary target. In Seaholm’s veer offense, Trinch will be receiving a significant portion of the carries.
Luke Wischmeyer Luke Wischmeyer 6'1" | 205 lbs | LB Seaholm | 2022 MI , MLB Seaholm – Seaholm always has great linebackers and this year is no exception with another team captain in Wischmeyer. Once he makes his read he’s a freight train to wherever he has to be whether that’s a call carrier, receiver. or block he must beat. The captain title tells me that Wischmeyer has put in the necessary work during the offseason in addition to being a team leader.
Logan Mckenzie, DE Byron Center – A multi-sport athlete, Logan Mckenzie is going to play a larger role on a team that graduated many starters last season. Mckenzie showed a great spin move often cutting inside on the line. He’s an incredibly smart athlete, though he’s going to have to do his job and play very unselfishly if the team is going to stop Seaholm’s offense. Look for Mckenzie to be a difference-maker.
Jason Sevigny, RB Byron Center – “Vision” is the first word that comes to mind when watching Sevigny play. Once he gets the ball, he’s excellent at following his blockers and later finding great lanes to shoot through. Seaholm has an excellent front 7 and if Sevigny can have a great game, Byron Center has a great chance at victory.
Keys to the game
Seaholm – Play “Seaholm football”. This means dictating the pace of the game, playing a methodical steady offense that wears down the opposing defense throughout the game. I predict that if it’s a one-score game heading into the 4th quarter, Seaholm will find a way to victory.
Byron Center – Play to your strengths on offense, and do your job on defense. It’s going to be clear early on if Byron Center is going to be able to execute their offense. Byron Center needs a great game plan to counter that excellent front 7. On the defensive end, nobody can play hero ball. Everyone has to do their job every single play or they will surely fall short of victory.
