While it would be easy for head football coach Josh Nicholson and his team to dwell on the losses in 2020, his approach has been different.
With a convincing spring win over Oasis, the 2021 season officially began for Cape Coral Mariner – and that is all that matters.
As the losses from last year are in the past, so are the wins over Estero, East Lee and rival Cape Coral.
The attention is fully on 2021, and after a very productive off-season, the Tritons are ready to make an impact – with prospects such as Class of 2022 standouts Joshua Capo (MLB, 5-10, 180), Josiah Cook (OL/DL, 6-0, 270 – 3.11 GPA), Ashton Devitt (MLB, 5-10, 170 – 2.55 GPA), Vance Gaddy (OL/DT, 6-3, 255) and versatile Dylan Garner (QB/FS, 5-11, 145 – 3.14 GPA).
The 2022 class also has Jonathan Gutierrez (CB/WR, 5-9, 165), Brian Manjuck (WR, 6-0, 160 – 3.32 GPA), all-around student/athlete Jacob Manning (WB/SS, 5-11, 170 – 3.74 GPA), Joel Martin (TE/OLB, 5-11, 185 – 3.88 GPA), Kevin Molina (MLB/OL, 5-10, 220 – 3.27 GPA), Guilherme Moura (RB/LB, 5-8, 190 – 2.8 GPA), David Parada (OL/LB, 5-11, 240 – 3.29 GPA), Alex Portier (RB/CB, 5-10, 155 – 3.5 GPA) and wide receiver/defensive back Anthony Sumo (WR/DB, 6-0, 150 – 3.02 GPA).
KEEP AN EYE ON THE UNDERCLASSMEN
As much of the focus will be on the senior class, Coach Nicholson and this staff are excited about the underclassmen – starting with 2023.
Prospects such as Andy Ahmetasevic (RB/LB, 5-10, 165 – 2.64 GPA), Cameron Bennett (Athlete/FS, 6-0, 145 – 3.96 GPA), Gabriel Chica (K/DB, 5-10, 165 – 2.92 GPA), fullback Alan Landaverde (5-9, 180 – 3.27 GPA) and versatile Karson Long (TE/DL, 6-1, 175 – 3.45 GPA).
Class of 2023 standouts also include Logan Manley (OL/DL, 6-2, 190 – 2.96 GPA), Evan Mann (WR/CB, 5-10, 160 – 3.46 GPA), Chaos Sanchez (OL/DL, 5-10, 245 – 2.48 GPA) and Matthew Stinnett (TE/OLB, 6-0, 170 – 2.74 GPA).
The 2024 class is also stacked with talent – starting with two sport (wrestling) athlete Yrovi Valdes Alfonso (OL, 6-6, 280 – 3.57 GPA), Buddy Bishop (RB/LB, 5-9, 165 – 3.0 GPA), Chase Johnson (DE, 5-10, 190), elite athlete and future star football player Justin Lewis (WR/FS, 6-0, 170 – 3.14 GPA), Nolan Tantay (OL/DL, 5-9, 185 – 4.0 GPA) and Noah Tolbert (RB/LB, 6-1, 175 – 3.0 GPA).
