In a year when head coach Scott Perry's Lake Mary football team posted an 8-3 record, there is plenty of optimism heading into 2021.
With a solid core of seniors, the Rams will build on those losses to West Orange, Apopka in the regular season and in the playoffs, where they dropped a tough 7-6 decision.
Looking back at those setbacks certainly set the tone for this year – and while they came up short in those contests, it's the wins that will go a long way in giving this program confidence this coming season.
With that senior class in place – prospects such as USF commitment [player_tooltip player_id="50174" first="Gunnar" last="Smith"] (QB, 6-4, 180 – 3.7 GPA), who is considered one of the best in the state, will certainly be a leader that this program will need in those competitive 8A games.
Also, Stone Boss (LB/S, 6-0, 182 – 4.2 GPA), Ayden Petitpas (SS, 5-11, 185 – 3.9 GPA), Al Yacoub (FB/TE, 6-1, 206 – 3.0 GPA), Alejandro Ramos (FS, 5-10, 170 – 2.8 GPA) and defensive lineman C.J. Sheets (6-2, 200 – 3.5 GPA) are going to be special as will.
Look for UCF commitment Colton Boomer (PK, 5-10, 175 – 3.4 GPA) to give the special teams a major lift – as well Gannon Stoner (DE/OLB, 5-10, 175 – 3.4 GPA), Isaac Peters (DE, 6-0, 210 – 4.4 GPA) and defensive tackle Mike Rubio (DT, 6-2, 315).
PLENTY OF YOUNG TALENT ON THE WAY
As the senior class will have that experience and leadership needed to get through the season ahead, Class of 2023 juniors [player_tooltip player_id="128795" first="Braeden" last="Marshall"] (CB/S, 5-10, 170 – 3.4 GPA), Garrett Law (P, 6-0, 165 – 2.5 GPA) and receiver Markel Jones (5-11, 160 – 2.7 GPA) are expected to make a major impact.
In addition, the Rams figure to be strong with Class of 2024 sophomores Caden Harshbarger (RB/WR, 5-11, 160 – 3.85 GPA) and receiver Logan Cook (5-11, 165 – 3.8 GPA).
