That’s because the North Cobb rushing attack, led by junior QB Malachi Singleton Malachi Singleton 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB North Cobb | 2023 State GA , just couldn’t be stopped.
The Warriors are coming off a tough loss to 6A powerhouse Buford in the season opener, so a bounce-back win against Milton was much-needed as they try to continue to prove that they are one of the best 7A teams in the country.
As good as the Milton Eagles are, even without star defensive end Lebbeus Overton Lebbeus Overton 6'4" | 245 lbs | DL Milton | 2022 GA , they just couldn’t stop Malachi Singleton Malachi Singleton 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB North Cobb | 2023 State GA and Brice Hall for North Cobb. Singleton, in particular, was outstanding. He didn’t light up the stat sheet in the passing game, throwing for just 65 yards, but he did run wild on the Eagles the entire night. One of the top 2023 QBs across the country, Singleton showed off his ability as a runner and rushed for 217 yards and 5 touchdowns. He ran the read-option to perfection, and if he found a hole, he flew threw it.
At 6-foot-1 220-pounds, Singleton is a think, powerful runner with excellent speed for his size. He was able to take off for multiple big runs that switched the field, and he was incredibly dangerous in the red-zone. Singleton found the end-zone consistently and the Milton defense had no answer for him when he ran to the outside. He powered through tackles all night and proved to be just too much for the Eagles. He ran harder and harder as the game went along and put the game away early in the second half.
Singleton was the MVP of the game, but a lot of credit needs to go to the Warriors’ defense as well. The Eagles are loaded with D1 talent on offense, but North Cobb was able to shut them down. Milton got an early score thanks to a long TD run by three-star Jordan McDonald Jordan McDonald 6'1" | 215 lbs | RB Milton | 2022 State GA , but their second score didn’t come until late in the 4th when the game was basically over. McDonald finished the contest with 114 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown. Milton QB Devin Farrell Devin Farrell 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB Milton | 2022 State GA had trouble finding receivers all night long and had Warrior defenders chasing him on just about every passing down.
For North Cobb, three-star defensive end Joshua Josephs was a wrecking ball all game. The long, athletic pass rusher was tough to stop all game and was clearly the best defender in the game. Josephs ended the game with 3 TFLs and multiple impact plays getting after thee passer. He was a terror off the edge and held his own both against the pass and against the run.
Overall, this is the game that North Cobb was looking for in the season opener. Most in the industry felt that Milton was going to come in and give North Cobb a fight, but that didn’t happen. Both teams have the potential to still push for a 7A title this fall, but it looks like North Cobb is a bigger contender for a championship right now.
