They are always competitive and making a push. They win games and are very tough to beat at home. The Cadets have one of the best home-field advantages in the area. They play tough defense and keep the defense in front of them. They have some concerns heading into 2021 but overall, they are set to have a very good year.
New Coach In Town
This past Spring, Concordia Lutheran made Mike Eshbach the new head coach. He’s been a coach for many local schools like New Haven, Bishop Dwenger, and so on. He’s always been an assistant coach but in 2021 he’s the clear head coach. He was a head coach for a semi-pro team a few years back as well. He’s got a wide variety of experience at many different levels and the school is confident he’s ready to lead the Cadets from here on out.
Key Players In 2021
Eshbach will be starting the year with a new QB. Brandon Davis is now gone to college, which means they should be relying on Eli Mattox in 2021. Mattox is a nice size where he stands at 6’3″ and 180 lbs. He’s spent his entire summer doing 7 on 7 camps and trying to get ready to be the starting QB for the Cadets. The Junior has been working and believes he is ready for the new starting gig in 2021.
Defensively the Cadets will be led by Dontrell Laquell Johnson. Johnson plays both ways and is a playmaker at both ends of the ball. He’s 6’3″ and 185 lbs and plays into every inch of that frame. He plays FS for the Cadets and makes plays all over the field. He covers a ton of ground in a flash and likes to hit the offensive players. He’s also decent in the weight room where he will bench 225 lbs, squat 365 lbs, and deadlift 455 lbs. He’s a very good athlete and on offense shows. He’s able to go up and get the ball almost every time it comes anywhere near him.
2021 Schedule
The Cadets start their new era with a new coach and quarterback later this month. Last year they went 7-6 and lost only 1 game at home. They had a great run into the playoffs where they fell short against Indianapolis Bishop Chatard. They’re hopeful with the new pieces they can get back to Indianapolis. They start their 2021 campaign on August 20th at home at 7 PM against Fort Wayne South Side. They rotate home and away games until later in the season when they finish the regular season with back-to-back home games against Carroll and Fort Wayne North Side.
