Byrnes’ second-year starter has benefitted from his first full 7-on-7 summer as the varsity starter, and he showed it against Greer. Rogers finished 10-for-16 with 239 yards and five touchdowns as the Rebels defeated the Yellow Jackets 55-14.
• One of Rogers’ top targets also opened some eyes on Friday. Collin Imhoff hauled in six receptions for the Rebels on his way to 128 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
• Just down the road in Woodruff, Mathias Dial put on a clinic. The senior receiver showcased an immediate connection with QB Carson Tucker, notching nine receptions for 175 yards and three touchdowns.
• Spartanburg didn’t get a win, but they did find a wrecking ball at running back in Drek Carter. Carter rushed for 148 yards and both Vikings’ scores against Gaffney, including a 41-yard fourth-quarter dash that trimmed the Indians’ lead to five.
• Powdersville’s Eli Hudgins looked great in the Patriots’ comeback win over Broome. Hudgins was 11-of-19 for 306 yards, and tossed three of his five touchdowns after halftime as Powdersville rallied from a 28-19 deficit. He added 87 yards on the ground, including a 57-yard TD in the fourth quarter that served as an exclamation point.
