I was one the sidelines for the game between Clayton HS and Wake Forest HS. There was an offensive firework on the opening kick-off in this contest. The eight players performances that are listed caught my attention throughout the game: [player_tooltip player_id="28661" first="Donovan" last="Spellman"], DE, 6’4" 218, Clayton HS. Donovan was quick out of his stance to move past the blockers, often unblocked. He disrupted several plays and made several solo tackles. [player_tooltip player_id="28661" first="Donovan" last="Spellman"] quickness enabled him to make two quarterback sacks during the game. Donovan is the dominant player and leader of the defensive unit. Cade Cyrus, DE, 6’2" 240, Clayton HS. Cade is quick out of his stance to control the defender and stop the play. He plays at a high-energy level and sacked the quarterback on one series. Cade Cyrus made several solo tackles and assisted on others. Mason Bland, LB, 5’10" 195, Clayton HS. Mason displayed good lateral movement and quickness to get to the ball carrier. He was solid at solo tackling and assisted on several stops throughout the game. Mason Bland gave maximum effort on every play. Mason Rambo, LB, 6’2" 215, Clayton HS. Mason was a very active player with good lateral movement. He has a natural instinct to find the ball carrier. Mason Rambo made several tackles and assisted on others throughout the game. [player_tooltip player_id="107401" first="Chris" last="Allen"], DE, 6’5" 260, Wake Forest HS. Chris displayed quick lateral movements to move past blockers to disrupt and stop the play. He was tough to block and made several tackles for lost yardage. [player_tooltip player_id="107401" first="Chris" last="Allen"] displayed good use of hands and technique to handle the blockers. He was a dominant force on the defensive unit. Torren Boyce, DT, 6’ 0" 280, Wake Forest HS. Torren used his size and strength to control blockers and stop the ball carriers. He did a good job of controlling the line of scrimmage against the run. Torren Boyce moves quickly in short spaces to gain control and stop the play. Kyle Leary, DT, 6’1" 280, Wake Forest HS. Kyle used his size and strength to control blockers and stop the ball carriers. He teamed with Torren to control the line of scrimmage against the run. Kyle Leary moves quickly in short spaces to gain control and stop the play. [player_tooltip player_id="152895" first="Steven" last="Williams II"], LB, 5’11" 210, Wake Forest HS. Steven displayed good lateral movement and quickness to cover wide receivers on passing plays. [player_tooltip player_id="152895" first="Steven" last="Williams II"] intercepted a juggled pass and returned the ball deep into the red zone for his team on one series.
