The Chargers are led by their star QB heading into the year and their star Safety. There is a ton of excitement in the air when you look at what the Chargers could do in the 2021 season.
The Chargers are coming off of a decent season where they went 7-3 and fell short to Warsaw on the road in the playoffs. The Chargers had one of the best offenses in the state last year where they were putting up 46 PPG. A lot of that had to do with their star QB Jeff Becker Jeff Becker 6'0" | 195 lbs | QB Carroll | 2022 State IN and the continuity on the coaching staff.
The Chargers are led by Head Coach Doug Dinan. Dinan is a respected figure in the community and expects greatness from his players. They know to play hard, physical, and until the whistle blows. Dinan has coached a great defense over the years. Last year, it struggled some, but that could be because the opposing teams were always playing catch up. They gave up 25 PPG but you have to remember they were averaging over 40. Games became shootouts and opposing teams just had to drop back and sling it.
Carroll is led by their leader of the pack Jeff Becker Jeff Becker 6'0" | 195 lbs | QB Carroll | 2022 State IN . Becker is a great athlete. He stands at 6’1″ and 195 lbs and runs a 4.53. He’s always a threat to take off and run and bust open the game in that phase. Last year alone he had 645 rushing yards. Those rushing yards went along with his 2500 passing yards. Becker has a huge arm and can drop back and just let it fly. He has decent mechanics and is well-coached. Becker is the 54th ranked player in the State of Indiana in the class of 2022. The 3-star recruit is committed to playing college football at South Dakota State.
Defensively, one of the Chargers leaders is FS Jorge Valdes. Valdes is heading into his Junior campaign. He’s a playmaker and is always flying around hitting players and intercepting passes. His footwork and mechanics could use a decent amount of work. He’s already a good size standing at 5’11″ and 185 lbs. He’s a natural athlete and an instinctive player. The Chargers are relying on him to step up and have a big year if they’re going to push for a state title.
The Chargers start their season at home against rival Fort Wayne Bishop Luers. They then have back-to-back away games before coming back home. They finish their season on October 15th at home against Fort Wayne Wayne. The Chargers have so much potential but in their division alone they have a ton of teams standing in their way. I’ll be keeping close tabs on the Chargers during the season to keep you posted on how they are doing.
