The high school football regular season started with a Week 1 battle between the State 4AA Champs (Chambers) and the State 4A Runner-Ups (Gibbons).  It was a tight contest in the first quarter and Chambers began to extend the lead in the second quarter into halftime.  Chambers continue to increase the lead in the third quarter after a lengthy weather-delay.  Gibbons mounted a comeback midway through the third quarter.  Gibbons continued the comeback into the fourth quarter, falling short of winning the game (<strong>35 - 29 in favor of Chambers</strong>).  The players listed were impressive throughout the game: <strong>Ethan Greene, DE, 6’2" 201, Cardinal Gibbons HS</strong>.  Ethan displayed good technique and strength to control blockers to stop the play.  He was a very active player who assisted on several tackles throughout the game.  Ethan Greene moves well in the open field. <strong>Donovan Dozier, DE, 6’3" 215, Cardinal Gibbons HS</strong>.  Donovan displayed good footwork and technique to control blockers to stop the play.  He plays at a high-energy level and gives maximum effort on every play.  Donovan Dozier displayed good lateral movement and assisted on several tackles throughout the game. <strong>Joshua StoneKing, DL, 6’3" 227, Cardinal Gibbons HS</strong>.  Joshua displayed quickness out of his stance to move quickly past blockers to stop the play.  He runs well in the open field and made several tackles for no gain.  Joshua StoneKing was a dominant force on the defensive line. Cardinal Gibbons defense was tough to run against and plays well together as a defensive unit.  Multiple players assisted on tackles throughout the game. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="156088" first="James" last="Pearce"], DL, 6’5" 220, Julius Chambers HS</strong>.  James was quick out of his stance to move past blockers to stop the play.  He runs well in the open field and kept constant pressure on the quarterback throughout the game.  [player_tooltip player_id="156088" first="James" last="Pearce"] was a dominant force on the defensive line throughout the game. <strong>Xavier Johnson, CB, 6’0" 168, Julius Chambers HS</strong>.  Xavier displayed good lateral movement and is a physical player.  He defends well in the secondary, making it difficult for receivers to make a catch against him. Xavier Johnson scooped up a bad snap from center to score for a touchdown. <strong>Jalen Swindell, DE, 6’2" 260, Julius Chambers HS</strong>.  Jalen displayed good technique and strength to control blockers and stop the play.  He is quick for size and runs well in the open field as evident by an interception for a TD run to score.  Jalen Swindell is an aggressive and tough defensive lineman who is difficult to block. Julius Chambers defensive is tough and difficult to run against.  The defensive unit made a goal-line stop during the first series and to secure the win in the fourth quarter.
