We checked out some of the 7A’s best offensive weapons in our Preseason All-State Offensive Team.
QUARTERBACKS
[player_tooltip player_id="125933" first="Conner" last="Harrell"]- |6’1 189| |Thompson|
Harrell possesses fantastic arm talent, he can make every throw needed with his anticipation, accuracy, and power. Harrell had a phenomenal junior season. He threw for 42 touchdowns and 3,568 yards and ran for 5 touchdowns and 319 yards. On top of that, he was able to lead Thompson to an undefeated run with a state championship victory last fall. Harrell looks to do so again this season before he officially signs as a North Carolina Tarheel in December!
[player_tooltip player_id="125943" first="Caleb" last="Nix"]- |6’0 193| |Central|
The Nix family has been known in Alabama for a while. With a father that played at Auburn in the 90s and a brother that is Auburn’s current starting quarterback, there’s plenty of history of family quarterbacks. [player_tooltip player_id="125943" first="Caleb" last="Nix"] is next on that list as he plays underneath his father at Central. Nix throws with great accuracy, has some great mobility, and has proven to be the quarterback needed for Central’s offense, consistently making plays to help move the chains. Heading into his senior season, Nix has offers listed from Troy, ULM, and more!
RUNNING BACKS
[player_tooltip player_id="126051" first="Albert" last="Taggart"]- |6’0 205| |Prattville|
Taggart has been fantastic in the ground attack for Prattville. Taggart uses his size to his advantage by running over defenders and shedding tackles. In addition to that, he also has great vision, speed, and elusiveness as he cuts up defenses in the 7A. Currently, Taggart lists offers from Kansas, Liberty, USF, and more.
WIDE RECEIVERS
Karmello English- |5’11 175| |Central|
English garnered a lot of attention after his stellar sophomore season that made him into a national recruit. With his ridiculous speed, strong hands, and elusiveness, English is constantly a threat towards the opposing secondary. It’s clear why English has become [player_tooltip player_id="125943" first="Caleb" last="Nix"]’s favorite target and has been getting the attention he has, as he is one of the best at his position in the state. Currently, English lists offers from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, and more.
[player_tooltip player_id="126083" first="Omari" last="Kelly"]- |6’2 180| |Hewitt-Trussville|
Kelly has put the 7A on national display throughout his career at Hewitt Trussville. Kelly has been lined up at many places for his team but seems to have found his brightest spot at wide receiver. Kelly has great size, hands, speed, and can run some excellent routes, all of which have provided his team with a lethal offensive weapon they can always rely on. Going into his final season, Kelly lists offers from nearly everyone in the country, with the likes of Auburn, Alabama, Florida, and more dying to add him to their 2022 recruiting class!
[player_tooltip player_id="127508" first="Jaylen" last="Ward"]- |6’2 190| |Thompson|
Ward is an incredibly physical receiver that has been making defensive backs’ lives miserable for a while now. Using his size, Ward is consistently able to bully DBs, whether it’s by plowing over them, or catching passes through contact, he has been a terrific receiver the past few years. After transferring from Spain Park to Thompson, the Middle Tennessee State commit looks to carry over that dominance into the 7A and it should be no surprise to see him do so this season.
[player_tooltip player_id="127511" first="Ryan" last="Peppins"]- |5’8 160| |Thompson|
In the same receiving corp as Ward, Peppins has been a terrific deep threat for [player_tooltip player_id="125933" first="Conner" last="Harrell"] and the Thompson offense. With his straight-line speed and hands, Peppins has developed into a great receiving target that will have to be doubled up by defenses this fall. In addition to that, Peppins is a great return man, routinely getting his team into fantastic field position on either punt or kick returns. Currently a Western Kentucky commit, Peppins looks to wrap up his time at Thompson this fall!
OFFENSIVE LINE
Eston Harris- |6’6 290| |Auburn|
Heading into his senior year, Harris is one of the top offensive line prospects in the state, and the whole country has taken notice. With his incredible size and technique, it is near impossible to get around Harris on the edge. It is hard to really point out any flaws in his game. Currently, Harris has offers listed from Florida State, Oregon, Georgia and his hometown team Auburn.
[player_tooltip player_id="128276" first="Bradyn" last="Joiner"]- |6’1 330| |Auburn|
As a sophomore, Joiner showed the nation just what he was made of. Joiner is a bulldozer in the run game, reaching the second level with ease and consistently helping open up wide lanes for the running back. In addition to that Joiner has also shown his abilities in pass coverage with the ability to silence opposing defensive tackles. Currently, Joiner has offers listed from Georgia, Mississippi State, Tennessee, and more.
Drew Bobo- |6’5 280| |Auburn|
Yet again on the same dominant Auburn High offensive line, Drew Bobo has garnered a lot of attention for his ability to be an incredible anchor. Bobo has great flexibility and power that have helped him turn into a boulder for defensive ends to try and get around. With compliments on the same line like [player_tooltip player_id="128276" first="Bradyn" last="Joiner"] and Eston Harris, Auburn High should have one of the best lines in the state and possibly the entire country as well. Currently, Bobo lists offers from Auburn, Kentucky, Oregon, and more.
Ryan Gunter- |6’5 300| |Hewitt-Trussville|
Gunter is a massive guard that has played very well for Hewitt-Trussville, consistently taking care of interior pressure as well as anyone in the state. Gunter has terrific strength, great movement, and contributes well to both the run and pass game. Currently, Gunter is committed to Liberty as he heads into his senior season this fall!
[player_tooltip player_id="129491" first="Riley" last="Quick"]- |6’5 260| |Hewitt-Trussville|
With a brother currently playing offensive line for Alabama, it shouldn’t be a shocker to see [player_tooltip player_id="129491" first="Riley" last="Quick"] be just as dominant. Quick is massive, has great flexibility, strength, and power that have made him into one of the best offensive tackles in the state and country. In addition to that, Quick has also turned heads in baseball, where he has been receiving collegiate interest as well. Quick currently lists offers from Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State, and more.
