It’s home to legendary programs, historic players, and some of the best college football and NFL football players in the game. It’s a place that breeds toughness, physicality, and heart. It’s known for running the football and producing quality backs and linebackers, but it’s home to some of the best 2022 QBs in the state as well. Multiple South Georgia QBs are heading to play D1 football next year, but before that happens, they’re looking to make one final state championship push for their senior season.
Here are the top 2022 QBs to know about in South Georgia this fall…
Jacurri Brown Jacurri Brown 6'4" | 205 lbs | QB Lowndes | 2022 State GA – Lowndes:
One of the better QB prospects in the entire 2022 class, Brown is such a dynamic talent who can really run and has great size already at 6-foot-4 205-pounds. He makes it look easy at times when he takes off and is one of the best runners of any QB across the country. He has a raw, talented arm and knows how to throw with some zip and some power, but still needs to learn and develop as a true QB. He has all the raw tools and athleticism to be a game-changing QB at Miami, and there’s still plenty of time for him to grow and develop as a passer. If he does that and keeps improving his arm overall, there might not be many defense who can stop the high-powered Lowndes offense this fall. He’s a true dual-threat QB, and in the right system, has the potential to put up a lot of points this season as a senior. Look for Brown to help Lowndes make a state-championship run in 7A this fall.
Thomas Castellanos Thomas Castellanos 5'11" | 190 lbs | QB Ware County | 2022 State GA – Ware County:
As a junior last fall, Castellanos couldn’t be stopped. He threw for 2,920 yards and 23 touchdowns while only throwing six INTs. He showed a live arm all season and had no problem pushing the ball downfield. He doesn’t have elite arm talent, but his arm is good enough to make plenty of throws at the D1 level. On the ground, Castellanos rushed the ball 170 times for 939 yards (5.5 ypc) and 24 touchdowns. When he took off, he was looking to score, and he scored often. While some teams considered the 5-foot-11 190-pounder as an “athlete”, which makes sense, but he’s committed to UCF where he will get a strong look at QB. He’s a tremendous athlete and is so dangerous with the ball in his hands but new UCF head coach Gus Malzahn had other plans. The former Auburn coach doesn’t need a pure passer to run his system, but a good athlete who makes smart decisions with the football. Look for Castellanos to end his brilliant high school career with a deep playoff run for the Gators.
Holden Geriner Holden Geriner 6'3" | 210 lbs | QB Benedictine | 2022 State GA – Benedictine
One of the most accurate passers across the state, Geriner is a big, strong-armed QB at 6-foot-3 210-pounds who distributes the ball really well. He’s great in 7-on-7 because he reads defenses well, can throw a dart into tight coverage, and consistently throws a tight, catchable ball. He shows good footwork in the pocket and has shown leadership qualities over the years as well. The future Auburn Tiger land Savannah native is coming off a big junior season where he threw for 2,770 yards and 25 touchdowns. He does a lot of things well and already looks like an SEC quarterback. His accuracy, leadership, and overall frame will allow him to fit right in at the next level.
