Although losses are still losses, the Panthers were rather close against Leander in the regular season, losing 48-47, and barely lost to Canyon in the playoffs, 20-17. The Panthers showed promise but still needed improvement and time will tell if this season shows that, but Pflugerville’s running game remains intact, which should pose problems for opposing defenses.
KEY RETURNERS
Elijah Oakmon Elijah Oakmon 5'9" | 190 lbs | RB Pflugerville | 2022 TX (SR-RB)
Oakmon was the rushing leader for the Panthers with 863 yards while also scoring 10 rushing touchdowns. Oakmon is essentially a freight train that is near impossible to stop once he starts to get downfield. He is the perfect balance of power and speed and almost needs five defenders to bring him down. He is reminiscent of Le’Veon Bell in his prime. Still, the duo of Oakmon and junior running back Jake Iloka Jake Iloka 5'9" | 170 lbs | RB Pflugerville | 2023 State TX is deadly.
Jake Iloka Jake Iloka 5'9" | 170 lbs | RB Pflugerville | 2023 State TX (JR-RB)
Iloka was right behind Oakmon in the running game with 858 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns. What makes this duo equally as great is the fact that they also put up similar receiving numbers, with Iloka have 27 receptions for 213 yards and two touchdowns, and Oakmon having 13 receptions for 147 yards and two touchdowns. It is tough to say who is the faster back, but Iloka is essentially a speed demon in his tape, where no one can even catch up to him once he breaks free. The scary part is, he did this all as a sophomore. Imagine what he will do in the future with the experience he has already gained.
Trey Snowberger (SR-DL)
Snowberger provided a large part of the defense, recording a total of four sacks and two forced fumbles. He also recorded 59 total tackles, 41 solo tackles and six tackles for a loss. It is safe to say that Snowberger knows how to strip the ball. He is both fast and powerful and is such an elite edge rusher. He can maneuver through blocks with finesse and can get into the backfield in a split second. With this being his last season with the Panthers, Snowberger will definitely be playing his heart out, which will be worthy of a look.
