The new head coach, Michael Quintero from Red Oak, will not have that hard of an adjustment as he was the defensive coordinator under former head coach Joe Willis, who left Cedar Park in 2016 after spending three years at the school. Another challenge Cedar Park faces is losing star quarterback Ryder Hernandez Ryder Hernandez 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB Cedar Park | 2021 TX , who now plays baseball at Texas State. However, Quintero will enjoy a strong defensive with a few key returners that will surely continue the Timberwolves “Black Rain” reputation.
KEY RETURNERS:
Kevin Adams (SR-RB)
Adams is a big return on offense as he finished the season with the most rushing yards, 722, according to his Twitter, and nine rushing touchdowns, according to MaxPreps. Adams played the role of a shotgun back perfectly, able to run routes and catch passes while also having excellent ball carrier vision to find gaps to create big runs. Adams is also the perfect back to have in redzone situations and has enough power to push through to the endzone.
Murray Robinson (SR-DL)
One of the biggest returners is Robinson, who finished last year with five sacks, 56 total tackles, 51 solo tackles and 26 tackles for a loss. Robinson knows how to cause problems for opposing offenses, to say the least. He is smart on the defensive line and can not be fooled by trick plays and his eyes are constantly on the ball. He is also strong and has enough finesse to get past the offensive linemen in his way. Considering the defensive mind of Quintero, it should be fun to watch Robinson as he helps lead the Black Rain defense to some big stops.
Cody Marshall (SR-DB)
Marshall is also a big asset to return this season for the secondary. He had one interception last season as well as 25 pass deflections. He has excellent size for his positions and he plays tight coverage but can also perfectly play zone coverage. More so, if needed, he can also play as a receiver and can bring his speed and athleticism to both sides of the ball. Marshall should be fun to watch in his final season with the Timberwolves.
Jake McAnally (SR-LB)
McAnally is also a smart player to have on the defensive side of the ball, he is opportunistic and has excellent play recognition. He is especially lethal to have against run plays and can pretty much stop the running back in his tracks most of the time. Considering his role as a senior this season and a leader, it will be fun to watch McAnally with his gained experience from the offseason.
