2021 has been a year filled with emotion for 2022 ATH Jordan Anthony Jordan Anthony 5'11" | 160 lbs | DB Tylertown | 2022 State MS .
In the beginning of the year, Anthony was a small town prospect without a lot of buzz going on. The Tylertown product had a productive junior season and earned his way to an offer from the South Alabama Jaguars. Shortly after that, more teams begin to take notice of his talents.
Anthony, a track runner, capitalized on his early offers even more by breaking the state 100m record with a 10.23. The speedster was invited to national competitions, winning those as well. Power Five programs hungry for speed followed his record with offers to their universities as well. Anthony became one of the hottest names in the southeast.
On July 15th, 2021, things took a turn for Anthony. Anthony lost his father, making things for the young man even more difficult. His father was a big supporter of his and Anthony would frequently discuss the schools that were recruiting him. Who stood out? Who was going to be the right fit for him and his family? Who would utilize him the best?
With more offers than he knew what to do with, Anthony narrowed it down to three: Boston College, Kentucky, and Ole Miss. He just couldn’t quite decide which one would be his home until one night.
“After my father passed, I kept having dreams leading me to which school to choose, and at the end of the dream it was Kentucky,” said Anthony. Such a special event made a difference to Anthony, and he called the coaching staff soon after.
The Wildcats should be excited about this one. Anthony is a special player on the gridiron, runner on the track, and outstanding overall young man.
Anthony will be joining Kentucky as a wide receiver. He will also be on the track team at the university during the spring. As far as the recruitment process goes, Anthony is glad it is over, but had some thoughts to share.
“Well I only have 1 year worth of offense of film. I didn’t play football my freshman year, and I only played defense my sophomore year so like to have this type of recruitment is special. Imagine if I played WR my whole life! It would be crazy, but I’m blessed and I thank God,” said Anthony.
As far as his studies go, Anthony plans on majoring in kinesiology and computer science. This is something that Anthony will be taking very seriously. In our interview, Anthony said, “Firstly, my major, a diploma, will last longer than me playing ball or running track.” With that kind of attitude, Anthony is poised for success both on and off the field and throughout life.
On the field, the Wildcats are getting one of the fastest playmakers in the entire country. Speed is hard to find in recruiting, and Anthony has every bit of it. He is a raw prospect, having only played high school football for two seasons, but quickly turned himself into a monster on Friday nights. Anthony has great quickness in the open field and can make defenders miss with ease. He’s fully capable of taking a screen or short pass all the way to the house, or can line up and run vertical routes to burn safeties deep. This is the type of player that has All SEC written all over him.
The fans are getting a great player, but also a great person. In regards to what he wanted the fans to know about him, Anthony said, “The fans should expect greatness and leadership, nothing less. I wanna be a young man and athlete for the younger kids to have someone to look up to like I did.”
