The only real difference between the two months is that most high school players are back with their high school teams for joint practices and 7-on-7 matchups. As a result, Prep Redzone has been hitting the road to see as many teams air it out this July as we can. The first one we caught this month was Bishop Hartley at Olentangy Orange.
So without further ado let’s talk about some standout players from the host team.
Andre Robinson, wide receiver/ cornerback, 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds, 2022
We saw Robinson earlier in the spring and he definitely looked the part but that was just a team lift. This time we actually got to see him run routes and play in coverage. Needless to say, he impressed, the senior to be has a really stout build with excellent track speed. On top of that, he flashed natural hands and the ability to track the ball well on deep routes. After what we saw against Bishop Hartley it’s safe to say Robinson should be added to some lower-level college recruiting boards. Especially since he is also a talented cornerback with a smooth backpedal and loose hips. Two-way versatility, track speed, and a stout build now that’s a player every team can use.
Jaker Werling, quarterback, 6-foot and 180 pounds, 2022
Another prospect that we got to see this spring and even a few times this summer on the camp circuit but he looked the best we had ever seen against Bishop Hartley. First and foremost he showed off some nice velocity and zip on the ball which allowed him to put it into tight windows. On top of the zip, Werling also had some good touch on a lot of his throws, often putting the ball only where his receiver could get it and plays could be made. One side of his game that we didn’t get to see in this 7-on-7 setting was his athleticism but it is definitely there seeing as he clocked in as a 4.6 guy this summer. As for what is next Werling it will be staying healthy after having his junior season ended early due to an injury. He’s picked up some college interest this summer and that’s bound to rise after a strong senior year.
Isaac Campbell, halfback/ defensive line, 6-foot-1 and 240 pounds, 2022
While Campbell’s future is likely in the trenches as a defensive lineman he still put on a show in this 7-on-7 setting so we have to mention him. To start, Campbell is a big man at 240 pounds but he moves very well for his size and that allowed him to make a handful of plays at the running back position. On the other side of the ball, he also flashed his skills as a coverage linebacker in 1-on-1s. With that in mind, Campbell may be a very intriguing option in an odd-man front where he can both rush the passer and drop in coverage. He is already the most heavily recruited player on this list but more offers and interests are likely coming his way because of everything he can do at his size.
