More than this, those who are very big fans of the game, and recruiting, love to see players translate to the next level, further reassuring that they knew that they witnessed something special from the start. In the state of Georgia, plenty of high schools have produced some of the top players in the country, and have gone on to see great development into the next level, and beyond. This has included players such as Deshaun Watson, Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, and Jake Fromm. Below, we have listed some of the best current QB prospects in the state who we think will translate into the next level. Feel free to take a look and see with your own eyes who you think could be the next big thing.
Gunner Stockton Gunner Stockton 6'1" | 220 lbs | QB Rabun County | 2022 State GA (2022)- Rabun County
It should not be a shock that Stockton has made our list, especially since he is already committed to UGA, which is one of the best schools in the country. He projects well into the next level due to his overall mobility, and arm strength. His arm strength allows him to fit the ball into really tight windows, while also making any throw at various levels of the field with ease. His footwork may need a bunch of work, but he has good mechanics, vision of the field, and placement on his passes. Because the strength of his arm and velocity that he throws with, he is able to drive the ball in awkwardly positioned situations, and at times, he even sees success when he gets the ball out late. In addition to these things, Stockton also has good pocket presence, and he processes reads well, allowing him to get the ball out quickly. Next season, we expect him to continue to work on his mechanics, as well as his footwork.
Sam Horn Sam Horn 6'4" | 190 lbs | QB Collins Hill | 2022 State GA (2022)- Collins Hill
Compared to Stockton, we think that Horn has smoother mechanics, and better footwork, but his overall arm strength is not as strong. Horn, who is committed to Missouri, projects well into college because of his strong presence in the pocket, as well as the way he processes reads and is able to keep his eyes down the field. In doing so, he sees the various levels of the field well, and allows his physical intangibles to do the rest of the work for him. When the ball comes out, it comes out clean, and quick, creating offensive efficiency. Depending on the pass, Horn is also able to throw with good touch, while also putting velocity behind the ball when needed. Because he holds the ability to do both, there are situations in which he is able to fit the ball into very tight windows. With this, it can also be seen that as he drops back to pass, he keeps a strong base, and throws with squared shoulders, which helps him to be accurate very consistently.
Dylan Lonergan Dylan Lonergan 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Brookwood | 2023 State GA (2023)- Brookwood
Out of this entire list, Lonergan has the chance to project better than any of the other players listed. He not only has a very strong arm and can fit the ball into small windows, but as a younger prospect, he makes throws at various levels of the field with ease. Some of these passes are already college level, just like the way that he processes reads. Lonergan not only goes through his progressions well, but he also gets the ball out very quickly, hitting receivers in stride, or right out of their break. He also has great footwork, and a strong base for his age, which is very rare to see. When the ball comes out, it comes out very cleanly, making for very catch-able balls for the receivers. Going into next season, we want to see him continue to grow into his frame, and to improve in every area that he is already strong in. Without a doubt, he can become one of the best prospects in his class before it is all said and done.
Reece Fountain Reece Fountain 6'1" | 175 lbs | QB Rome | 2024 State GA (2024)- Rome
Fountain, who is only a 2024 prospect, has already shown flashes of greatness for a young player. As a freshman last season, he threw 8 TD’s, to 0 interceptions. He has the ideal length, and frame that develops well throughout the high school years, and he also has the stature and pocket presence that projects well going into college. With this, he plays with good vision, and throws the ball with good accuracy, and placement. He leads receivers when needed, and his athleticism allows him to step up in the pocket and use his mobility to his advantage. Fountain also throws with good touch, but we would like to see him work on the consistency of the velocity on some of his passes. Naturally, we think this will improve as he goes throughout high school and develops into his frame, and strength. His fluid mechanics will also help him to develop into one of the prospects at his position in the coming years.
