Continue ReadingAngola has been up and down in the past few years. They’ve had their bumps but last year was a good glimmer of hope with how they finished. Despite the pandemic last year, Angola managed to finish 5-3. They started scorching hot but then fell hard to finish the year. In their last 2 games, they only managed 7 total points.
Before they sputtered, the Hornets were averaging 42 ppg and the offense was humming. They were going up and down the field and putting it to their opponents in some of their games. They beat West Noble 41-0, South Bend Clay 49-0, and Garrett 42-7. The Hornets absolutely suffocated those 3 opponents and took it to them.
The Hornets are led by Head Coach Andrew Thomas. Thomas has the experience and know-how to lead the Hornets to be successful. He showed us what they could do in some games last year. With another year under his belt, Thomas could be primed to coach the Hornets to a Conference Title.
The Hornets are led on the field by their veteran defensive signal-caller Braden Toigo. Toigo is their SS and is a very decent athlete. He could spend some time in the locker room as he’s very slender standing in at 6’0″ and 170 lbs. He’s very young as he’s only a Sophomore. He’s been the leader of that defense since day 1 and they expect a breakout year.
The Hornets will be without their offensive leader, Tucker Hasselman. The QB graduated last year and moved on. The Hornets should be turning to Tyler Call at QB. Their season depends on how he develops and grows as a QB. I’ll be their week 1 to find out. A lot rides on the young man’s shoulders and we will get a good understanding of what he can do early on.
There’s a lot of intrigue with the Hornets. They have a coach who could be on the hot seat if things don’t work out, a new QB, and some young up-and-coming playmakers. There’s a lot of pieces that need to be put together and we will find out if they can do it. It’s that exciting time of the year where everyone is hopeful. The best part, we always get to find out because it’s always played out on the field.
