Continue ReadingListed below are a handful of very talented running backs in the Houston area who may be flying under a few radars. These players have shown on film that they have what it takes to be mentioned with the higher ranked backs and this post is meant to give them the attention they deserve. There are many more running backs out there who are still being discovered who will make another list in the near future. Make sure to write these names down and prepare to watch them work this season!
Ezell Jolly – Ridge Point
One thing that stands out the most on Jolly’s film is his ability to see the field. His field vision is second to none. He does an excellent job of showing patience, setting up his blocks, and then exploding through the running lanes. He is a player who relies on his eyes which leads to very good runs. Jolly shows his athleticism on routes out of the backfield as well. He has very good hands and runs his routes unafraid of contact or taking a big hit across the middle. Jolly excels at finding daylight at the line of scrimmage and making his way to the next level of the defense. He is a physical player who finishes off his runs with great power. Jolly is a player with great potential and someone who will draw a great amount of attention from everybody in the state. He currently holds one offer with many more on the way with his skill set.
Parker Jenkins – Klein Forest
Jenkins shows that he is a true playmaker with the ball in his hands. He shows great power and drive, rarely allowing himself to be tackled by a single defender. Jenkins displays excellent change of direction, sticking his cleat in the ground and reversing field to make a positive play. He shows incredible versatility being able to line up in the slot and being a reliable receiver out of the backfield. Jenkins is an all around baller who does what is needed to give his team the edge. Jenkins has had a very productive off-season as well, being a top name at camps he has attended this summer. Make sure to remember this name because it will be one mentioned for some time to come.
Rashon Estes Rashon Estes 5'6" | 165 lbs | RB Jersey Village | 2023 State TX – Jersey Village
Do not let Estes size fool you, he is a true threat on the field and will make a defense pay if not prepared. Estes shows tremendous acceleration through running lanes and shows great wiggle. He is a shifty back who tends to be extremely difficult to bring down in the open field. Estes displays his strength as well on film, lowering his shoulder and delivering the blow to defenders. In the red zone, he shows his burst through little daylight and forces his way into the end zone. Estes is a player with much talent who will continue to draw eyes with his play. Expectations are high for him this upcoming season but I believe he will not disappoint.
Rashaad Johnson Rashaad Johnson 5'9" | 210 lbs | RB North Shore | 2023 State TX – North Shore
Johnson is a player who possesses the talent to be one of the next big names to come out of North Shore. He is a back who shows great physicality paired with an excellent burst. Johnson does not go down without a fight and is always looking to gain those extra yards. On film, Johnson gives opposing defenses fits with his physical style of running and his breakaway speed. Johnson is one to keep an eye on and see how he develops. Expect him to have a productive season for the Mustang offense.
Kelton Weathers – Lamar
Weathers is another back who shows great patience and acceleration on his runs. He displays a second gear in the open field and the ability to break through tough tackles, showing his strength. Weathers is an excellent receiver out the backfield as well, showing off his concentration and confident hands. Weathers has great vision with the ball in his hands and puts his skills on display with every touch. Weathers has grabbed my attention and I expect his name to pick up even more this upcoming season.
