With north of 250 players in attendance, there were a lot of players to scout, evaluate, and talk to, here are our top performers from the 2022 class in no order.
Oscar Smith (Chesapeake) LB Dax Wilson
Is Wilson the next great Oscar Smith linebacker? After watching and learning from Malcolm Britt (ODU) and Maurice Freeman (Indiana) he has had the time to learn. At 6’1″ and 200lbs, Wilson has the size, and if this camp was any indication, Chris Scott has another quality linebacker, even if its just for a season but Wilson has no offers yet, possibly due to limited playing time with two FBS recruits ahead of him the past two years. A 3.5 GPA will help Wilson in his search of an offer and he is a very solid linebacker with really good coverage skills.
Western Branch (Chesapeake) DB Kaleb Broadbent
Broadbent, 5’11” and 185lbs performed well in front of coaches and has some very good coverage skills. With Western Branch on the rise, Broadbent is only going to be looked at by more colleges and with a 3.1 GPA, Broadbent is a qualifier who should have no problem finding a home.
No offers for Broadbent yet, but there has been interest from Columbia.

Catholic (Va Beach) LB Cody Parret
Catholic is under new leadership with John Harlow and I’ve seen Parret at most of the camps I’ve covered this season, and each time he gets better. At a solid 6’2″ and 210lbs, Parret has the size you want in a linebacker and is versatile, playing running back and tight end also. Parret has good coverage skills but no offers yet.
With a full season coming (hopefully) Parret should get at least a look or two.

Clover Hill (Midlothian) TE Cam Mazell
Mazell is a two sport star, also playing on Clover Hill’s baseball team. At 6’3″ and 210lbs, Mazell is a solid tight end and plays in the outfield on the baseball team. Mazell has sure hands and can run good routes. I did not get to see him block, which is something that I would like to see him do, and will most likely be asked of him at the next level. It remains to be seen at least from me whether Mazell will have to pick one sport as he is very good on the baseball diamond.

Kecoughtan (Hampton) ATH Jakai Mozelle
Mozelle has shot up in height since the spring season began. Now at 6’3″ and 180lbs, Mozelle has the height needed to be a standout at either WR or DB. With his added height, Mozelle looked very good in WR drills but I did not notice if he took any reps at DB as there were three fields running at the same time. With his added height, Mozelle should play an even bigger role in the Warriors offense once they get rolling in the fall.

Highland Springs (Richmond) WR Daquan Giles
Giles, at 5’10” and 175lbs looked solid at WR, although he could stand to gain an inch or two but as of now he is a solid slot WR. Just named to the first-team All-Metro squad, Giles is hoping to bring Highland Springs back to the state championship after a four-year streak of titles ended in 2019. Giles has no offers yet but they could be coming as a few coaches at the camp were discussing his performance.
