Some news and notes from this past week in New Mexico high school football:
<strong>FOOTBALL PROSPECTS SHINE IN STATE TRACK</strong>: Former Cleveland standout WR – and New Mexico signee - [player_tooltip player_id="26158" first="Luke" last="Wysong"] won the Class 5A 100 and 200 meter dash Saturday at UNM’s track complex with times of 10.55 seconds and , winning the race easily. Cleveland also won the 4x100 relay with Luke Wyson, younger brother Evan and David Murphy. Meanwhile 2023 Goddard standout [player_tooltip player_id="138088" first="Javyn" last="Morales"] won the Class 4A 100 meters, while 2022 Lovington WR/KR [player_tooltip player_id="26256" first="Adam" last="Aguilera"] won the 200 meters (22.40 seconds). Former Cleveland RB Tyler Jenson won the Class 5A javelin title.
<strong>NOTES</strong>:
-- Our top two prospects in the 2023 class – Cibola QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="137861" first="Aden" last="Chavez"]</strong> and La Cueva QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="137862" first="Aidan" last="Armenta"]</strong> – both participated in a camp at UNLV on Sunday. Armenta was at the Top 200 camp in Albuquerque Saturday morning before flying to Las Vegas. 2022 Cibola <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="134963" first="Nathan" last="Lopez"]</strong> also was in Las Vegas.
-- 2022 Farmington QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="26232" first="Brandon" last="Furbee"]</strong> was also scheduled to participate in the UNLV camp on Sunday.
-- Armenta has been invited back to the prestigious QBUniverse camp. He raised eyebrows at the events last year in Phoenix and the next regional event will again be held in Phoenix in January.
-- 2023 Albuquerque Academy QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="137884" first="A.J." last="Rivera"]</strong> traveled to Stanford in Palo Alto, CA for a camp before returning to ABQ in time for Saturday’s Top 200 camp.
-- Rio Rancho RB <strong>Zack Vigil</strong> wrapped up his lengthy camp tour last Monday at Air Force. FCS Drake University in Iowa is showing interest in Vigil.
-- Highland LB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="135135" first="Abraham" last="Lopez"]</strong> has been busy camping. He was at Air Force last weekend before competing at the Top 200 camp in Albuquerque Saturday.
-- 2021 Los Lunas football player Zachary Doyle was named the Class 5A Wrestler of the Year.
-- 2022 Albuquerque High DE <strong>Landon Williams</strong> announced Sunday night that he had been offered by New Mexico Highlands.
