While these athletes are in a class of their own, there are other prospects that will be top tier caliber players that can play at the next level, whether it be FBS or Division III Below, we will break down the tape of some of the unknown productive and impressive prospects that the Bay Area had to offer in the Spring of 2021 and who are set to break out this Fall.
DB/WR, Sailasa Vadrwale, Rancho Cotate HS
One of the top defensive backs in all of Northern California, the North Bay product is flying under the radar right now, but that will soon change. He is a versatile athlete with great length, long arms and good natural strength for his age. On tape, he is a natural peddler with fluid hips in transition and consistently uses his long arms to jam at the LOS and recover when trailing and making plays on the ball. A long strider, he is a threat in the return game showing good vision in traffic and having a nice burst and third level speed while able to make defenders miss in space and weave through traffic. Also possessing natural ball skills and high point ability while tackling well in space and extremely physical, he is a FBS caliber player and one of the top ’23 defenders Northern California has to offer.
OLB, Colin Borrelli, Liberty HS
Borrelli is one of the top linebackers in the Bay Area and is a true outside linebacker with the movement abilities and fluidity to stay at the position at the next level. On tape, he is a very explosive athlete that breaks well to ball carriers without wasted steps and is one of the hardest hitters in the region. He flashes quick play diagnosis while moving well laterally and triggering in a hurry while flashing good closing speed and tackling through ball carriers. He plays with active hands to get off blocks and weaves well through blockers while reducing his surface area and bending around the edge. He is poised for a huge Senior season for Liberty and should see his recruiting stock rise in the coming months.
ATH, Justin Guin, San Marin HS
Guin is a throwback tough and physical player that can play on either side of the ball at the next level. He is a well put together back that runs through contact and looks for work in-between the tackles while running through arm/ankle tackles. He has good vision in the short area while possessing a sneaky first level burst and short area quickness. On defense, he plays on both the second and third level while seemingly comfortable in space and a terrific open field tackler while flashing good closing speed and thump at the point of attack while showing quick play diagnosis. He will without a doubt find a home at the next level and contribute for multiple years.
LB, Jaylen McGary, Castlemont HS
McGary is a recent transfer from Berkley high school and did not disappoint in his first year leading the Castlemont defense. He is a true inside linebacker that is stout against the run and comes downhill in a hurry while physical and tough between the tackles. A high motor and aggressive defender, he is a strong tackler that takes good angles to ball carriers while exploding through his hips upon contact and running through his target. He is a college caliber prospect that should draw D-III+ interest in the coming months leading up to and through his Senior season.
