I headed over to Weston to check out Cypress Bay during summer workouts. The school is one of the largest in the state of Florida with approximately 4800 students.
Lightning head coach Rocco Casullo undoubtedly has the resources to make Cypress Bay a routine contender. Keeping area kids at home instead of transferring will be key for the future. The Lightning kickoff the 2021 season with North Miami Beach on August 20th.
Let’s take a look at some of the Bolts' talent...
Michael Brennan - Offensive Lineman
2024 Michael Brennan is not a kid to be messed with in the trenches. The 6-foot-1, 265-pound prospect was a Under Armor All-American as an 8th grader and a freshman All-American selection by Adidas. Brennan looked like an absolute tank against these assignments last season. It appears he has good hand placement and will rag doll his opponent down field. I like how he finishes blocks and leaves no room to breath until the whistle. Sean Ackermanian is another lineman to watch in this class. He stands at a solid 6-foot-3 and weighs 220 pounds. The Lightning have young talent they can develop upfront (see below).
[player_tooltip player_id="128693" first="Gustavo" last="Bravo"] - Tackle/Guard
2023 [player_tooltip player_id="128693" first="Gustavo" last="Bravo"] is a versatile lineman at 6-foot-1, 230 pounds. His 3.6 GPA makes me believe he can pick up things quickly and help out in multiple areas on the football field. You can see his footwork inside and on the edge by clicking here. You can also see Bravo using his strength to pancake defenders while opening up running lanes. I also like how he gets to the second level and blocks downfield. A valuable player to his team that should only get better. 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="128610" first="Matthew" last="Prigmore"] is another prospect to watch as a center/guard upfront. Prigmore is 6-foot-1, 240-pounds and holds a 4.675 GPA. You can take a look at his highlights by clicking here.
Joaquin Edie - Wide Receiver
Be on the lookout for Joaquin Edie. The 2024 prospect appears to have speed and the ability to make plays in motion. For example, Edie could be used on a Jet Sweep or in a flat route. Overall, get him in space whether its behind the line of scrimmage or down field. Furthermore, Edie can probably decoy as a running back in certain formations. You can also see he finds success on quick slant patterns and in/out routes. Edie currently is listed at 5-foot-10, 160 pounds. He also holds a 3.7 GPA. Another playmaker on the outside to watch is [player_tooltip player_id="128518" first="Noah" last="Solomon"]. The 6-foot,165-pound receiver can also line up in the backfield and make plays in space. Solomon should rack up yards after catch with his agility. He holds a 4.35 GPA in the classroom. Cypress Bay has a ton of weapons that can turn a simple 5-yard pass into explosive play.
Issac Gonzalez - Wide Receiver
2022 Issac Gonzalez is a prospect with a background as a quarterback. I always like kids who have the intuitiveness of playing both of those positions. I think you have an edge to make plays out of nothing when you have that natural chemistry. Moreover, the timing and overall awareness to be at the right spot on the field can be the difference between a catch and a incomplete pass. He is a 6-foot-3, 185-pound kid who should have no problem creating a big target.
Ismail Toure - Defensive Back
2022 Ismail Toure stood out to me in shorts and a t-shirt. You can imagine his presence when he puts on a helmet and pads. He is a 6-foot-2, 205-pound force that should bring an edge of toughness in pass coverage. I think quarterbacks should be wary to throw in his direction.
Orlando Lima/Aquiles Erminy - Defensive Lineman/Tight Ends
Orlando Lima and Aquiles Erminy are a pair of 2023 prospects with a lot of size and athleticism. Lima is 6-foot-4, 200-pound prospect while Erminy stands at 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds. Both are listed as players who can play both sides of the line.
