Prep Redzone looks at some of the Stock Risers in Maryland’s 2022 recruiting class. Today, we look at several quarterbacks that just missed making the cut for the most recent rankings update. After looking at some more film, Prep Redzone has its eyes on several quarterbacks for the next Class of 2022 rankings update. Note: COVID-19 is the reason teams either played a few or no games during the 2020-21 season. [player_tooltip player_id="90585" first="Chase" last="Williams"]/6-1/190/St. Albans Williams did not get to play a full slate of games during his junior year. He spent his sophomore year season at Our Lady of Good Counsel where he helped lead his team to a WCAC Championship. The WCAC is one of the toughest leagues in the nation. Williams does a great job of selling the play-action which enables him to make the big plays downfield. He’s a mobile quarterback that is adept at climbing the pocket to avoid pressure and make the completion. Williams attacks the edge quickly on rollouts, putting the defense at a disadvantage. Is he going to run or pass? Elyjah Mitchell/6-1/175/Gwynn Park Mitchell could not play during his junior season because of the pandemic. Based on his sophomore year highlights, Mitchell looks like he’s an athlete playing quarterback. We might have to wait to see some game film this fall before we get a good read on his progress as a quarterback. [player_tooltip player_id="90587" first="Jalen" last="Webb-Starkey"]/6-0/200/Friendship Collegiate Academy Webb-Starkey didn’t play this past season. His sophomore year highlights showcase his ability to be effective in the short passing game. [player_tooltip player_id="90588" first="Robert" last="Lawson"]/5-9/165/Archbishop Carroll Lawson was not able to get any junior year film due to the pandemic so we looked up his sophomore year highlights. He isn’t afraid to take chances downfield. Lawson doesn’t mind throwing 50/50 passes, giving his wide receivers a chance to make a play. Lawson showed some mobility in his highlights too. He’s not fast, but he’s able to scramble for yardage once the pass blocking breaks down. [player_tooltip player_id="90594" first="Ryan" last="Barnard"]/6-2/180/South Carroll Barnard is one of the few players that was able to play last season. He has poise and patience in the pocket. Barnard is an athletic quarterback who has that natural running ability. He is a pass-first quarterback and his willing to sit in the pocket and find his second and third options. He has that feel and sent for the location of where the pocket pressure is coming from. Barnard will be one to watch out for this fall.
