We’ve got our eyes on a cornerback in the Midlands who is one of the more complete corners we’ve seen in our film evaluations. In case you missed it, here’s the latest edition from last Friday, May 28.
Crestwood – 2022 DB Zayln Myers
2020 Season Stats: 28 Total Tackles (19 solo 9 assisted), 1 INT, 9 PBU, 1 TFL, 1 FF, 1 Safety, 1 Blocked Punt
Analysis: Myers is one of the more complete corners that we’ve seen on film. He is consistent in man-to-man coverage, staying with the receiver he’s covering. He can play press coverage and runs at full speed. He showed the ability on film as far as recovery speed is concerned and he made a play in the open field against the run, not allowing the back to get past the LOS. He received his first offer from Newberry College on May 27. We will not be surprised to see the offer list grow heading into 2021.
Lakewood – 2022 ATH Kam Rodriguez
Analysis: Rodriguez is another one of the many two-way players we’ve seen in film evaluations but his strength may be on defense. He takes solid pursuit angles against the run. Once he recognizes where the run is going, there’s no hesitation from his safety position to make tackles in the running lanes. He can cover the field well as we saw on film where he went from one hash to the other to make an interception. He keeps his eyes in the right place as well. On offense, he plays the outside receiver position and can get you quick yards on a slant and can turn it into something bigger. He plays basketball as well.
Woodmont – 2024 LB Caleb Smith
Analysis: Smith played varsity football as a freshman and made his presence felt. He knows how to pursue with a purpose. He makes tackles at the LOS and recognizes plays quickly. He recovered a fumble which was returned for a TD and plays with a motor that is always running and brings the mentality you need at the position. He’s definitely a guy you’ll want to keep your eye over the next few years.
