State’s Top Defensive Lineman Makes College Decision

One of the state’s top overall prospects has made his college decision. That would be five-star defensive end, [player_tooltip player_id="33866" first="Mykel" last="Williams"]. The big 6-foot-5 265-pound EDGE defender held offers from just about every major college football program in the country, and after a visit to Los Angeles to check out the University of Southern California, the impressive defender decided to commit to the Trojans and play for head coach Clay Helton. Sources tell Prep Red-Zone that a lot went into his decision to commit to the Trojans, including the ability to play with his brother, Michael Trigg, and the ability to expand his brand with the name with the name, image, and likeness opportunity. The USC staff is doing a great job of selling to prospects the ability to monetize themselves down the road, and there’s no better place to do that than Southern California. The lifestyle, beautiful weather, and the ability to play for a prestigious program on the rise was too much to turn down for Williams, who had been leaning towards leaving the state for quite a while now. The Trojans were able to win him over during his official visit this past weekend, and they were able to land his commitment just days later. Williams originally planned to make his commitment in mid-March, but decided to hold off and take visits once the dead period ended on June 1st. The in-state Georgia Bulldogs appeared to be the team to beat in his recruitment for the longest time, but after taking multiple visits in June, Williams decided that USC was the best place for him. As a player, Williams is one of the most athletic and versatile defensive lineman in the state. He’s long, can play multiple positions, and has been a complete terror for offenses his entire career. He can line up on the edge or clog the middle from the defensive tackle position as he continues to add weight and muscle. He’s coming off a massive junior season where he recorded 69 tackles, 19 TFLs, 27 QB hurries, 3 forced fumbles, and a staggering 17 sacks in just 11 games. Williams was outstanding during the Under Armour Camp in Atlanta back in March and was one of the camp’s top performers that day. He was excellent in drill work and moved really well for someone his size. He’s big, powerful, explosive, and can get to the quarterback in multiple ways.
