When the 2020 season came to an end, and Fort Myers Riverdale finished with a 2-6 record, the commitment and dedication to turning things around moved into high gear.
With head coach James Delgado and his staff putting things into place for spring, it was all about getting these prospects exposure, but at the same time, teaching and getting the most out of a group that showed some positive signs in a tough pandemic season.
With the spring and now summer being used as a teaching period and making conditioning a priority, the Raiders want more of the wins over Cape Coral (17-12) and Naples Golden Gate (14-12) and a lot less of the games that got away because of a lack of experience.
What also happed during the season was the Class of 2022 started to mature and understand that they will be the epicenter in 2021.
The group is led by Zechariah Braham (LB/DE, 6-0, 214 – 3.06 GPA), Hunter Carrgile (DL, 6-0, 230 – 3.09 GPA), Lucky Cintron (WR, 5-9, 160 – 3.45 GPA), Shyheem Clerjuste (DL, 5-9, 210 – 2.68 GPA), Deondre Cunningham (DL/TE, 6-3, 237 – 3.9 GPA) and offensive lineman Logan Daniels (OL, 6-5, 262 – 3.73 GPA).
The senior class will also feature Tucker Devaney (WR/DB, 6-1, 190 – 3.03 GPA), [player_tooltip player_id="50143" first="Billy" last="Donahue"] (RB/DB, 6-1, 165 – 3.12 GPA), Brody Dorsey (QB, 5-11, 155 – 3.91 GPA), Jaden Edwards (DB/WR, 6-1, 175 – 2.5 GPA), Omar Encarnacion (OL, 6-2, 230 – 3.22 GPA), Kody McKinney (P/DL, 6-3, 201 – 3.5 GPA), Romeo McKnight (Athlete, 5-8, 170 – 2.8 GPA), Bryan Norgaisse (LB, 6-2, 196 – 2.53 GPA), Dominic Seward (WR, 5-9, 196 – 2.8 GPA), Keyon Smith (OL/DL, 6-2, 322 – 3.0 GPA) and versatile Kallan Topliff (S/LB, 6-0, 170 – 3.3 GPA).
THE UNDERCLASSMEN WILL BE NEEDED
While success will come from the seniors, who have the experience and leadership, the Raiders will also rely on underclassmen as well.
Class of 2023 juniors Schneider Annefills (OL, 6-3, 260 – 2.75 GPA), Tyler Abrams (QB/LB, 5-11, 187 – 3.79 GPA), A.J. Baxter (Athlete, 6-3, 175 – 3.2 GPA), Cade Best (LB, 5-10, 160 – 3.65 GPA) and defensive back [player_tooltip player_id="128755" first="Jaheim" last="Clarke"] (6-1, 160 – 3.56 GPA) will be special. So will Dayllon DePaula (PK, 6-0, 155 – 3.43 GPA), [player_tooltip player_id="128707" first="Colton" last="Flint"] (LB, 6-2, 170 – 3.37 GPA), Terry Jackson (RB/DB, 5-5, 150 – 2.65 GPA), Micael Nova (DB/WR, 6-3, 165 – 3.65 GPA), Wyatt Robinson (LB/FB, 6-1, 215 – 3.58 GPA) and Gavin Weygant (OL/DL, 6-2, 230 – 2.80 GPA).
Also, keep an eye on Class of 2024 sophomores Derrick Cochran (RB/DB, 5-7, 165), Nicardo Dunkley-Allen (RB, 5-7, 155), Eli Jenkins (FB/LB, 6-0, 195), Luis Perez (DL, 5-10, 218), A.J. Smith (DE/TE, 6-3, 195) and offensive lineman Jeffrey Yates (6-2, 250).
