The top five RB’s all project to have big years, and 4 of them remain uncommitted as we creep closer to the fall. Take a look at my breakdown of the top five 2022 RB’s in Washington: [player_tooltip player_id="87316" first="Djouvensky" last="Schlenbaker"], 6’1" 215lbs, Squalicum Schlenbaker ran for ran for 1,068 yards and 14 TD’s in the spring season and recently announced his commitment to Washington State. He sizes up with an athletic frame and can handle the workload. Schlenbaker possesses good vision and has flashed patience on slower developing plays to find a lane. He’s a north-south type of back and brings solid physicality to the POC. He shows excellent balance after contact and will run through arm tackles. He’s shown solid lateral agility as well and does a great job bouncing to the numbers when he passes the box to create space. [player_tooltip player_id="151864" first="Dylan" last="Carson"], 6’0" 195lbs, Marysville-Pilchuck Carson had a solid year as he racked up 911 yards and 14 TD’s on the ground. He displays a nice initial burst from a 3-point stance and shows excellent lateral agility and COD, especially at the LOS where he frequently makes opponents miss. He has solid vision in narrow spaces and possesses good balance between the tackles. He flashes a good pad level with physicality at the POC as well. Carson has top end speed for big play ability and projects to have a huge year. [player_tooltip player_id="151870" first="Ziere" last="Ford"], 5’7" 175lbs, Puyallup Ford stands 5’7" but plays like he is 6’0". Scrappy, gritty kid that will run between the tackles with a low pad level, and brings solid physicality all around. He does an excellent job keeping his momentum forward and possesses solid balance, which often lets him pick up extra chunks of yards. He’s showcased a nice hurdle at the LOS to make initial opponents miss, and is explosive out of cuts with a solid COD in space. Ford shows a nice burst through opening lanes, and will be a player to watch in the fall for Puyallup. [player_tooltip player_id="87350" first="Evan" last="Strong"], 6’1" 180lbs, Pullman Strong sizes up with a lean frame and is a solid all-around athlete. He’s a dynamic player that can burn you from multiple spots. He possesses nice top end speed for big play ability, and is a threat as a KR as well. He is shifty in space to make opponents miss, and is difficult to bring down in the open field. Strong is a big play threat every time he touches the ball, and should have a big year for Pullman. [player_tooltip player_id="87355" first="Gabe" last="Martin"], 6’2" 230lbs, Skyview Martin sizes up with a tremendous frame and size, and holds that workhorse ability. He’s a strong, downhill runner that is very difficult to bring down one on one. He shows good physicality at the POC and frequently runs through opponents, taking multiple players to bring him down. Martin has nice balance and he’s shown to bounce off opponents which often springs him into the second level or helps him pick up extra chunks of yards. Even with his style and build, he’s flashed nice lateral mobility to make opponents miss, but is your downhill north-south RB.
