DAKOTAS-- With prospect camps in full swing starting this week, we figured it would be a great time to update the rankings for Prep Redzone Dakotas just in time for the camp season. Today, we dive into our preview with some of the biggest takeaways I had when expanding our Class of 2022 list from 136 players to 215 players.
We Have a New Top 10
We welcome four prospects to our top 10 rankings. Each prospect was on our rankings, but has had a stellar offseason and was much deserving of being in our top 10.
OL [player_tooltip player_id="56489" first="Aiden" last="Brink"] (Sioux Falls Washington) checked in at #10.
OL [player_tooltip player_id="77457" first="Joseph" last="Cotton"] (Sioux Falls Roosevelt) checked in at #7.
OL/DL [player_tooltip player_id="56465" first="Jace" last="Sifore"] (Howard) checked in at #4.
OL/DL [player_tooltip player_id="56496" first="Kelby" last="Azure"] (Northwood) checked as our new #3 ranked prospect in the Dakotas.
WR/DB [player_tooltip player_id="56453" first="Carson" last="Hegerle"] (West Fargo) stayed in the #2 spot and probably the safest #1 spot in the Midwest was Minnesota commit QB [player_tooltip player_id="56447" first="Jacob" last="Knuth"] (Harrisburg).
New to the Rankings Inside the Top 50
There were 9 prospects that cracked the Top 50 prospects in the Dakotas in their first go-around on our Prep Redzone Dakotas rankings:
RB/LB [player_tooltip player_id="149447" first="Ashton" last="Hanson"] (Florence-Henry) came in at #50.
OL [player_tooltip player_id="151258" first="Conor" last="Hedges"] (Bismarck) posted up at #44
DL [player_tooltip player_id="151257" first="Christian" last="Heerde"] (Harrisburg) entered our rankings at #45. Heerde was a late miss on my end due to reading on Twitter he was a Class of 2020 prospect. I should have read his film all the way through and got him on here sooner!
LB [player_tooltip player_id="151218" first="Luke" last="Chiolis"] (Rapid City Stevens) comes in as a top 40 prospect in the Dakotas at #37. Choilis is a fierce linebacker that connects so well with each ball-carrier he’s talking. A tough kid I will tell you more about in the coming days! Shoutout the Rapid City Stevens Raiders as they add a 3rd prospect to our top 40.
LB [player_tooltip player_id="151164" first="Brit" last="Senftner"] (Bismarck St. Marys) checks in at #35. Senftner is a hard-hitting linebacker that if he can grow a larger frame, could be a fun FCS prospect to watch in the coming years.
DB [player_tooltip player_id="149442" first="Eli" last="Oxner"] (Rapid City Stevens) checks in at #29 and comes in as the #4 DB. I am a big fan of how well Oxner runs with the receiving core and has good size to back it up. One of the few press DBs you will see in the Dakotas with elusive speed.
WR/TE [player_tooltip player_id="151230" first="Peyton" last="Carroll"] (Brandon Valley) came into our rankings at #25. Carroll is a WR/TE combo, that moves really well without the ball as a blocker and has the strong speed for his size when the ball is coming his way.
DL [player_tooltip player_id="151169" first="Jackson" last="Geerts"] (Sioux Falls Lincoln) checks in at #22. This kid sheds off tackles super easily and has a solid frame that has next-level written all over it.
Team Totals in the Top 50
I thought it would be fun to add to the rivalry if I put together a team ranking on who had the most prospects in the Top 50. Here is who won that title this June in order. If I am a college coach at the D2 level or higher, I’m watching these high school programs this summer when they come to camp, etc.
1) Harrisburg (7)
2) Sioux Falls Roosevelt (5)
3) Sioux Falls Washington (4)
4-Tied) Brandon Valley (3)
4-Tied) Rapid City Stevens (3)
5-Tied) Sioux Falls Lincoln (2)
5-Tied) Bismarck (2)
What’s more important, Overall ranking or Position ranking?
When you look at the rankings some might have seen their rankings go up, down, etc. Your position ranking is more important than your overall ranking. If you improve your position ranking, the overall ranking will come!
Another thing to always take away from rankings is to not let them define you. I always tell prospects to use that ranking as fuel. Think your being slept on? Use it on the field. Spend less time on Twitter, being concerned about it, and put in the work in the weight room, field, etc. Another takeaway with rankings is this. Maybe there’s a kid on a rival team or in your district that plays on the opposite side of you that is ranked higher than you. Use it on the field!
