This also means it is time for us here at Prep RedZone Oklahoma to hit the road and cover as many of them as we can! On Saturday afternoon, we made the trip over to Southmoore High School for the I4 Trenches Showcase hosted by I4 sports and former Oklahoma State QB Asi Pogi. The showcase was a half-day event for offensive and defensive lineman that was jam-packed from beginning to end. The first portion featured weight-lifting/strength testing, combine testing, and positional drills led by a variety of Oklahoma coaches, including former OSU and NFL offensive lineman and current Stillwater O-Line coach, Charlie Johnson. The second portion of the showcase included strength and conditioning drills led by NFL Hall of Fame Offensive Lineman Will Shields, 1 on 1 pass rush drills, and a quick film session with all the coaches to finish things off. The showcase was an incredible experience for all the players in attendance from start to finish and we were fortunate enough to be there and get a glimpse of some of the top coaches and linemen in the state go to work. Let’s take a deeper dive into some of the players that stood out on Saturday.
Reece Trammell – 2022 Offensive Tackle – Mustang
Trammell was one of the first players that caught our eye before the pads came on because of his sheer size at 6’4″ 285 Lbs. It also helped that he was rocking a pretty killer mullet. Physical appearances aside though, Trammell ended up running one of the fastest 40’s among the offensive tackles in attendance, looked very nimble and smooth during the agility drills, and it was obvious during the strength drills that he has been putting in lots of work in the weight room. Prior to the showcase, Reece had recently set a new PR for himself in the power clean at 315 Lbs., which was good enough to break Mustang football’s school record for that particular lift. During the 1 on 1 session, it was more of the same from Trammell: consistency and dominance. Trammell regularly used a nice combination of hand placement, reactive athleticism, and brute strength to keep defenders from getting past him.
JaKobe Sanders JaKobe Sanders 6'3" | 285 lbs | OL Stillwater | 2023 State OK – 2023 Guard/Center – Stillwater
This showcase was one of our first looks at JaKobe since last season ended, and he did not disappoint one bit. During the strength and conditioning drills, Sanders looked to be in great shape physically as he breezed through the circuit that proved to be quite taxing for a few campers in attendance. During 1 on 1s, JaKobe switched between Center and Guard and did not lose many reps at either position. He displayed some nice power/ anchoring ability to take on power rushers, along with some agility and hip fluidity to stay in front of the speed rushers he faced.
Tango McCauley Tango McCauley 6'2" | 245 lbs | LB Del City | 2023 State OK – 2023 Defensive Lineman – John Marshall
McCauley shined during the combine portion on Saturday as he posted some of the top times from the entire camp, and he also impressed us on nearly every rep during the pass rush/1 on 1 session. Despite being outsized by many of the offensive linemen he competed against, Tango was constantly in the backfield. Whether he was lined up in a 9 technique outside the tackle, a 3 technique in between the guard and tackle, or even a 0 or shade technique over the Center, Tango found ways to make life difficult for his opponents every snap he was on the field for.
Damon Hinchey – 2022 Defensive Lineman – Norman North
We had Damon written down as a player to keep an eye out for after we saw him at his team camp last week, and he lived up to that in Moore. Damon was one of the bigger defensive ends at the showcase standing 6’3″ and weighing 235 Lbs, and he used every bit of his frame to overpower most of the offensive linemen that went against him in the competition portion of the camp. Hinchey does not have any major offers at the moment, but I imagine that could change sooner rather than later if he continues to show out and impress at camps like these and can carry that momentum into the 2021 season.
Additional Standouts
Heath Stewart – 2023 Offensive Lineman – Mustang
Seth Spady Seth Spady 6'3" | LB Hinton | 2022 State OK – 2022 Defensive End – Hinton
Gabe Gaines Gabe Gaines 6'4" | 270 lbs | OL Choctaw | 2023 State OK – 2023 Offensive Lineman – Choctaw
