Carver Atlanta’s football program is another one of the programs throughout the state of Georgia that does not get much attention or recognition. Regardless, this lack of attention hasn’t dictated any success, or lack of success that they’ve had the past few years. Last season, they finished the year with an overall 7-5 record, while also racking up 4 wins in their region. Because they only experienced one loss in their region all year, they were able to advance to the playoffs. Here, they were met by Pierce County in the 3rd round, and fell to them 51-18. Next season, because of their regional performance in 2020, we expect them to make another playoff push. The talent on their roster will certainly help them to be able to do so. [player_tooltip player_id="33892" first="Quintavious" last="Lockett"]- RB Lockett may not be the fastest back, but he runs with great lower body strength and power. This not only helps him to slam through running lanes, but it allows him to bulldoze any defender that tries to stop him short of the goal line. Lockett has a little bit of shimmy to his running as well, which helps to shake defenders, but a majority of the time, his leverage and burst as he runs downhill does all of the work for him. He does a decent job of turning the corner and protecting the football as well, and we also like how consistent he is in being able to run with discipline. Next season, expect him to continue to help shoulder a load for the offense, and to be one of the bigger play makers for his team. Kiontae Stozier- CB Stozier showed out in the 2020 season, as he was able to use his burst, speed, and sudden quickness to his advantage on both sides of the ball. On offense, he took snaps out of the backfield, and ran it as the QB, picking up plenty of yards, while also scoring plenty of points and creating match up problems for the defense. This same burst, speed, and vision helped him to have success on defense as well, as he was able to turn and run well, flip his hips, and stay in the hip pocket of receivers. Being able to do so helped him to position himself well, make plays on the ball, and to cause turnovers at times as well. His bend and flexibility allowed him to get in and out of his breaks fluidly, and to change direction on a dime, which is crucial at his position. Because of the traits he displayed in 2020, we expect him to have a great 2021 as well, and to be a game changer for his team. [player_tooltip player_id="33952" first="Dialo" last="Mosley"]- LB One thing we like about Mosley is his ability to play patient and disciplined football when stopping the run. Because he plays this way, he is able to sniff the run out, use his hands and leverage, and get to the ball carrier despite any kind of offensive blocks thrown his way. When he comes downhill to make tackles, he may be a bit stiff, but his speed and sudden quickness helps him to place himself in the right place, at the right time to make plays. As he takes time to prepare himself for the 2021 season, we suggest he works on his lateral movement skills. At times, this can hold him back, making it hard for him to stop offensive players in pursuit. Devonte Amasiani- OLB During his junior season, Devonte did a good job of allowing his production in stopping the run to assist with the overall success of the defense. He not only played with patience, but good vision of the game at all times. This helped him to be able to better predict the game as it would unfold, and to react fluidly with with spacial awareness. On contact, he did a decent job of rolling his hips, and shooting his hands, grabbing cloth, and finishing through to the ground. His length and speed also was a key factor to his success, allowing him to move around the field well in different coverage schemes, and in pursuit to stop ball carriers. As the 2021 season approaches, we hope to see him continue to do this, as it would help him to continue to have some of the same success.
