There were several hybrid tight ends/big receivers Saturday at the Canton Prep Redzone showcase. These physically impressive skilled athletes had both the frame and ball skills to be superb tight ends, flexed receivers, or H-backs. Here are a few who did an outstanding job Saturday.

McDonald is a sure handed tight end that can run a variety of routes from the traditional tight end set, to a flexed out Y, or a wingback alignment. He stretches to catch the football out in front of him in a crowd, hauling in tough or back shoulder passes. Impressive physically, McDonald broad jumped nine feet in Canton.
[player_tooltip player_id="119745" first="Jackson" last="McGohan"] 6’5” 195 Miamisburg 2023
Even though he plays wide out at Miamisburg, this raw, but very talented athlete, can grow into a tight end by the time he is a senior. McGohan runs the fade route in the redzone as good as any receiver and goes up to highpoint the football. On film, he is a physical blocker in space. Saturday, he also was impressive in broad jumping over nine and a half feet.
[player_tooltip player_id="160211" first="Joshua" last="Kucker"] 6’5” 210 Gahanna Lincoln 2022
Kucker was impressive at catching the football and competing in the one-on-one competition in Canton. He is destined to be tight end due to his size and ball skills even though he also runs wide receiver for his high school. Kucker has soft hands and can snag high or badly thrown passes.
[player_tooltip player_id="125961" first="Jonathan" last="Vermillion"] 6’5” 190 Cadiz Harrison Central 2022
Vermillion is tall and rangy receiver who is also an outstanding basketball player. He is best when in a slot alignment or a flexed out Y receiver. He catches the football confidently then turns upfield instantly after the reception. Vermillion also plays defensive end for Harrison Central.
[player_tooltip player_id="161110" first="Freddie" last="Borkey"] 6’1” 205 Padua Franciscan 2024
Borkey is only going to be sophomore this year, but he already has special receiving skills. He made the most spectacular receptions of the redzone competition Saturday by making a one-handed grab of a fade route even though he was tightly covered by the defensive back. He consistently caught the football all day against older defenders. He can be a future star for Padua.
