It was a hot and muggy night at the Ironton showcase but that didn’t keep the offensive and defensive linemen from going all out. They got a ton of reps at the pass rush/ pass protection drill as linemen from the tri-state area gave great effort in the one-on-one competition. Here are a few of the players that stood out Friday night.
Nate Cochran 6’3” 300 DL Ironton 2022
Nate is a powerful defensive lineman who is most impressive with his bull rush technique. He’s strong in the core and upper body who is tough for offensive linemen to keep leverage on as he keeps pressing into the backfield. Cochran has good mobility but needs to work the edges a little more when he gets to the next level.
[player_tooltip player_id="147047" first="CJ" last="Harvey"] 6’2” 260 DL Lakewood St. Edward 2022
Harvey has a great motor along with good quickness for his size. He uses his hands extremely well which keeps offensive linemen from getting into his frame. Harvey has several different pass rush techniques including the push-pull where he gets the offensive lineman off balance then slides his hips outside to come clean. He also has an excellent inside move.
[player_tooltip player_id="138565" first="Connor" last="Kemmerling"] 6’7” 320 OL Olentangy Orange 2022
Connor was the easiest man to pick out because he towered above other linemen. He has a good quick pass set and is impossible to power rush. Kemmerling has a huge wingspan he uses to his advantage. He has a great future in front of him once he becomes more violent with his hands when striking the opponent to stalemate the pass rush.
[player_tooltip player_id="147049" first="Isaac" last="Clary"] 6’6” 300 OL Gallia Academy 2023
Clary is a raw talent with great size and decent foot quickness. He uses his arms to keep defensive linemen from getting inside hand control and displays god first-punch power. He really gave great effort in the pass rush competition and has the potential to be one of the better offensive linemen in the state his senior year.
[player_tooltip player_id="147048" first="Cameron" last="Weil"] 6’3” 280 OL Western Brown 2022
Weil was one of the pleasant surprises at the Ironton showcase. He’s a thick offensive lineman that will probably play guard at the next level. One of his best pass protection techniques is the club which he likes to use when playing on the right side of the line. Weil can develop into a fine lineman as long as he works on his agility and foot quickness.
