Every Monday, we update you on all of the recruiting news from across the state. From offers to commitments and everything in between, we’ll have you covered. This week, things continued as nine prospects picked up offers within the last seven days. For two prospects, they picked up their first offers as spring ball begins. As always, you can follow us on Twitter to stay up to date from the moment an offer or commitment happens. @PrepRedzoneOK
THIS WEEK’S TOP STORIES
First Offer Alert!
Oklahoma has had a great run of producing some of the best kickers year in and year out. Last year, it was
Cameron Little

. Before that it was Reis Vernon. Both players were All Americans and the next one could be Marlow 2022 standout
Jace Gilbert

. The Marlow star is a terrific athlete but make no mistake, his future is as a kicker and he finally picked up his first offer last week. Army has offered Gilbert and it should be the first of many.
I’ve written and talked about the struggles of kickers during the recruiting process. It’s drawn out, the offers don’t come as fast and furious and it’s tougher than every other position. However, when it comes to the best kickers in the country, you won’t find may better than Gilbert. If a college needs a potential game-changer at the kicking position, you could do a lot worse than Gilbert.
New Mexico Extends Two More 2022 Offers
New Mexico certainly puts an importance on recruiting Oklahoma and they extended offers to two more 2022 prospects last week. First, it was Berryhill offensive lineman
Davis Dotson

followed. Downing has been a star on the football field for Vinita since his breakout freshman season. He’s played a variety of positions but got his start as a running back, running for over 1,000 yards as a freshman. He’s also one of the best sprinters in the state.
As for Dotson, New Mexico wasn’t the only offer for the Berryhill big man. Eastern Michigan also offered as Dotson continues to pick up more and more offers. Dotson has been on a roll over the last couple months. He’s certainly established himself as an offensive lineman on the rise in the state’s 2022 class.
SEC Programs Coming After Hasz
If you haven’t seen the college programs coming after Bixby 2023 tight end
Luke Hasz

Bixby | 2023

, you haven’t been paying attention over the last four months. No 2023 recruit in Oklahoma has picked up more offers since the start of the 2021 year. After somewhat of a quiet start to May, Hasz picked up two more offers from SEC programs. Texas A&M jumped in and offered and shortly after that, South Carolina followed. At this point, Hasz could be knocking on the door of 30+ offers and that list is growing every week.
Earlier this year, Hasz committed to playing in the Under Armour All American game in January of 2023. As far as his college recruitment and a possible commitment in that department, don’t hold your breath for anything anytime soon. All of this is still somewhat new to Hasz and he’s going to take his time and enjoy the process, especially with college campuses reopening for visits this summer.
Top Offensive Lineman Sets Official Visit
Deer Creek 2022 offensive lineman
Jacob Sexton
Jacob
Sexton
6'6" | OL
Deer Creek | 2022
State
OK
has long been the top offensive lineman in Oklahoma’s 2022 class and nothing has changed recently. Earlier this year, Sexton announced his top five schools. Alabama, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas and Texas A&M all made the cut for the Deer Creek big man. After he anounced those schools, Sexton told us that he was excited to get back onto a college campus after Covid shut down the majority of 2020.
Now that the dead period is almost over and official visits will begin the first weekend in June, Sexton isn’t wasting any time. Sexton tweeted out last week that he was locked in for an official visit to Alabama on the first weekend in June. He was very excited about Alabama when we talked to him back when he cut his list to five. Sexton will once again be the top offensive lineman in Oklahoma’s 2022 class when we do our ranking update in June. The only question will be whether or not he’s committed at that time.
