While RB MVP Wentric Williams III and OL MVP Ryan Ainsworth separated themselves from the pack, the RB and OL groups were loaded with talent at the EXOS Select 50 Showcase.
RB Standouts
Jackson McGaha – St. John XXIII 2022 – 5’11 195lbs
McGaha is built like a power back at 195lbs. He runs behind his pads, has solid contact balance, and the power to break through arm tackles with ease. Despite his build, he is light on his feet, displaying a nice jump cut. Jackson is a good route runner and has soft hands to be effectively deployed in the passing game.
Collin Nicholson – Episcopal School of Dallas 2024 – 6’0 195lbs
Nicholson is intriguing because of his physical gifts at such a young age. He had a 1.63 10 yard split in the 40-yard dash and was top 10 in all the testing measurements at the showcase. Collin is a quick, fluid athlete with great burst, making him a mismatch in the passing game against linebackers.
OL Standouts
Cooper Carroll – Van Alstyne 2023 – 6’1 195lbs
If not for the performance by Ryan Ainsworth, Carroll would have been an easy choice for OL MVP. He displayed good lateral mobility at the tackle position, a strong punch, and nice hand placement. Cooper plays with good leverage, which allows him to get a push in the run game as well.
Andrew Chairuangdej – Episcopal School of Dallas 2023 – 5’10 270lbs
Chairuangdej has a low center of gravity, allowing him to anchor well against a bull rush. He has active hands and feet and moves really well for his size. Along with playing in the interior OL, he plays DL at the Episcopal School of Dallas, although he was focused on showcasing his OL skills at this camp. Andrew has his eyes set on an Ivy League education and has the grades and IQ to get him there.
Matt Welch – Lake Worth 2023 – 6’4 275lbs
Welch has great size for an interior OL, with long arms and a wide base. Combine his strength with his strong base, and he is able to anchor well against power moves, and also able to push the line of scrimmage in the run game.
Matthew Reed – Covenant Christian Academy 2022 – 5’10 260lbs
Reed is another player with OL/DL flexibility, playing both ways at Covenant Christian Academy, although he spent the majority of his time at this event on the OL. Matthew uses his low body positioning to gain leverage and increase his power. He has solid hand usage, allowing him to keep his chest clean and get access to his opponent’s body.
