Kyler Murray. Kenny Hill. Matthew Stafford. There have been tons of talented quarterbacks to play football in the Dallas area, and that is again the case this year. Southlake Caroll’s [player_tooltip player_id="60687" first="Quinn" last="Ewers"] is the headliner of the crop, but there is no shortage of gunslingers that will play football at the next level. We highlight five Dallas area signal callers that deserve more attention heading into the 2021 offseason.
[player_tooltip player_id="60716" first="Braedyn" last="Locke"], ROCKWALL
[player_tooltip player_id="60716" first="Braedyn" last="Locke"] is a talented gunslinger in one of the best offenses in the state of Texas. Rockwall knows how to fill up the stat sheet and light up the scoreboard. Locke has a lot to do with that, as he has been the engineer of the Yellow Jackets offense over the past few seasons. Some college coaches have taken notice of Locke’s talents, but the rising senior quarterback does not receive the same amount of attention that some of his peers do. Locke is an accurate passer that consistently makes smart decisions behind center. He doesn’t get rattled often and typically knows where to go with the football. Mike Leach is one coach that has taken notice of Locke’s abilities. As a result, Locke will trade in his orange uniform for maroon during his career at Mississippi State in the Southeastern Conference. Expect Rockwall to be a real threat in the DFW during Locke’s final season behind center.
[player_tooltip player_id="60721" first="Josh" last="Hoover"], ROCKWALL-HEATH
You don’t have to look much further for the next quarterback on this list. Rockwall-Heath’s [player_tooltip player_id="60721" first="Josh" last="Hoover"] is another Dallas-area quarterback that is familiar with lighting up opposing defenses. Hoover threw for 3,556 yards and 36 touchdowns to 12 interceptions for the Hawks in 2020. Additionally, Hoover completed 63 percent of his passes against high-level competition, demonstrating his accuracy and ball placement. The Rockwall-Heath passer is not the biggest quarterback in the world, but he does enough to make up for that with his brilliant decision-making and ability to push the ball down the field. https://twitter.com/nickharris247/status/1331704724932993027?s=21 Hoover, who also plays baseball, has picked up a handful of FBS offers, but he has not committed to any program at this point in time. Compared to the rest of his class in Texas, Hoover is severely underrated. He has the tools to grow into an impact kind of player at the next level for whatever program is fortunate enough to get him.
BRAYDEN FOWLER-NICOLOSI, ALEDO
Aledo is used to producing big time players. Running back Jase McClellan and wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="60168" first="JoJo" last="Earle"]-Robinson are the two latest examples of the Bearcats sending their players to high-major college football. Quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi looks like he could be next in line. After being way under the radar, the rising senior signal-caller is beginning to heat up a little bit in the recruiting world. Arizona is one program that has thrown an offer out his way. https://twitter.com/aledoisd/status/1350161830572920840?s=21 The 6-foot-3 passer displays a strong arm that challenges defenses down the field. He also knows what it is like to perform on the big stage, as Aledo seemingly always has a target on its back. Expect Fowler-Nicolosi to take another step in his development during his final season on the prep level.
TWO OTHERS TO WATCH
[player_tooltip player_id="125220" first="Alex" last="Orji"], SACHE: Orji is an athletic dual-threat quarterback in the Dallas-Fort Worth era. The Virginia Tech commit has the ability to hurt you with his legs or with his arm. He, like the others mentioned on this list, is a bit overlooked at the quarterback position in the area. That said, he is a player with a high ceiling as he continues to refine his mechanics. https://twitter.com/shsfbc/status/1332443913932705793?s=21 [player_tooltip player_id="60767" first="Garret" last="Rangel"], Frisco Lone Star: Rangel is probably the most known player mentioned in this article. The Oklahoma State commit is another TXHSFB star that knows how to put up points on the scoreboard. His accuracy and ball placement are his two best traits. Rangel has the athletic ability to make pinpoint throws on the run. He should have a strong conclusion to his high school career before putting up video game numbers in Mike Gundy’s offense in Stillwater. https://twitter.com/mikeroach247/status/1375626915130785794?s=21
