They’ve each shown a superb pocket presence and an ability to get rid of the ball – often way downfield. These five each easily made the next cut for our statewide rankings.
Hudson Spivey Hudson Spivey 6'4" | 230 lbs | QB Pee Dee Academy | 2023 State SC Pee Dee Academy
The 6-foot-4, 215-pound quarterback is likely going to start flirting with most of the school’s passing records over the course of the next two seasons. And to think, he’s only at the midway point of his high school career. Spivey started as a freshman and he’s already thrown for 48 touchdowns in just 20 games. Those numbers are expected to improve dramatically.
Drew Moore Drew Moore 6'3" | 175 lbs | QB Goose Creek | 2023 State SC Goose Creek
No one is going to say that Moore is easily rattled. Of the Gators’ eight games in the pandemic-shorted 2020 season, six were decided by 10 points or less. More importantly, Goose Creek won four of those six. The 6-foot-3, 175-pound Moore’s calm demeanor was a big reason why – and also why the Gators will be a team to watch in 2021.
Carson Black Carson Black 6'3" | 190 lbs | QB Nation Ford | 2023 State SC Nation Ford
Black’s stock has continued to rise all spring during a high-profile camp and workout circuit, and we can already see some of that development. That’s a huge plus for a 6-foot-3, 190 pound quarterback who last season threw for more than 1,700 yards and 21 touchdowns while completing 66 percent of his passes.
Zolten Osborne Zolten Osborne 6'2" | 205 lbs | QB Fort Dorchester | 2023 State SC Fort Dorchester
The big-armed Osborne is going to be the next big thing out of North Charleston. After an impressive sophomore season that saw him throw for 1,200 yards and 13 touchdowns (compared to just two interceptions), Fort Dorchester is going to to use the next two seasons showing why its so good at developing talent.
Grayson Loftis Grayson Loftis 6'2" | 175 lbs | QB Gaffney | 2023 State SC Gaffney
When the tall quarterback transferred to Gaffney in the offseason, the Indians were immediately one of the talks of the Upstate in Class 5A. Loftis showed off his cannon for an arm as a sophomore at Blue Ridge and the type of ability that will create two years of highlights at one of the state’s more storied programs.
