Yesterday, Prep RedZone released the updated 2022 rankings for the state of Arkansas. The wide receiver position group is a strong one, yet a large number of talented players are flying under the radar. With the wide receiver group being such a deep one in terms of talent, we are going to put the spotlight on several wide receivers today. The receivers we spotlight today are players that scouts need to keep an eye on this season.
[player_tooltip player_id="75122" first="Walker" last="Catsavis"]-Fort Smith Northside
One of the most athletic prospects in the 2022 class is [player_tooltip player_id="75122" first="Walker" last="Catsavis"]. The Grizzlies are going to line Catsavis up all over the field this season. However, he is a nightmare to match up with at the wide receiver position. He uses his athletic ability well, to create separation and get into his route. Catsavis does an excellent job of being able to high point the football and outwork the opposing defensive back for the football. Northside coaches have used Catsavis at both the wide receiver and quarterback positions, so the 2021 season will be a big one for the Northside Grizzly.
[player_tooltip player_id="92904" first="Jackson" last="Cox"]-McGehee
One wide receiver that has benefited greatly from participating in track and field events has been [player_tooltip player_id="92904" first="Jackson" last="Cox"]. Cox has the speed now to play any of the wide receiver positions for McGehee. He has already displayed that he has good hands and can pull in tough receptions. Cox is one of the most consistent blockers for his teammates. McGehee has a strong running game every season and being able to block for his teammates has always been an impressive trait. Scouts should look for Cox to have a big 2021 season, as McGehee gets ready for another deep playoff run this season.
[player_tooltip player_id="95545" first="Chase" last="Cross"]-Hot Springs Lakeside
Hot Springs Lakeside enters the 2021 loaded with talented players on the offensive side of the ball. Cross has excellent speed, and he can play the slot or the outside receiver positions. He uses his speed to create separation from the opposing defensive back. A trait that stands with Cross, is that he will work his way open for the quarterback. Cross makes the quarterback’s job easy in how he gets open and creates separation. Cross has the talent to play at the next level and I expect him to have a big season for Lakeside. Scouts should make the trip to Lakeside to scout Cross, they will not leave disappointed.
[player_tooltip player_id="130970" first="Jackson" last="Morse"]-Central Arkansas Christian
One of the most intriguing prospects in the 2022 class is [player_tooltip player_id="130970" first="Jackson" last="Morse"]. Morse is a frustrating player for opposing defensive backs to match up against. Morse is 6-3 and 185-pounds. He is a talented route runner and does a great job of creating separation with his consistent route running. Morse does a good job of working his way back to the quarterback and giving him a wide receiver to throw the football to. Morse is a player that can use his athletic ability to high point the football and haul in the tough reception. He has proven to be an unselfish blocker and is a player that has the potential to have a big season for Central Arkansas Christian. Morse is a player to keep an eye on this season, he has a tremendous amount of potential and scouts should catch a Central Arkansas Christian game.
[player_tooltip player_id="140509" first="Sam" last="Hurley"]-Fayetteville
The Fayetteville receiving corps has the potential to be one of the most productive in the state this season. [player_tooltip player_id="140509" first="Sam" last="Hurley"] gives the Bulldogs a player that can high point the football and just make life miserable for opposing defensive backs. Hurley has terrific speed, and he has plenty of athletic ability that helps him create separation. [player_tooltip player_id="140509" first="Sam" last="Hurley"] is going to see passes thrown his way, since opposing defenses have [player_tooltip player_id="94925" first="Jalen" last="Blackburn"] and [player_tooltip player_id="75066" first="Isaiah" last="Sategna"] that they are going to have to account for this season. Look for Fayetteville to have an explosive offense this season and all three wide receivers have the potential to play on Saturdays.
