Each season player of the year honors incorporates multiple factors, including individual performance and the team’s success. Have a look at Oregon’s top Offensive athletes as I would have them ranked for this award heading into the last week of the season.
*DEFENSE listed tomorrow..
OFFENSE
.[player_tooltip player_id="28717" first="Gavin" last="Haines"] RB West Linn 21’- After going for over 2000+ and 24 Td’s last season, very few people have done more. He currently leads the state with (12) TDs playing for a dominant team who spreads the ball around.
.[player_tooltip player_id="28846" first="Cole" last="Prusia"] WR Tualatin 22’- Prusia might be the state’s overall MVP if we are ranking athletes on both offense & defense. He has had an unreal season thus far recently picking up the offer from Oregon State.
.[player_tooltip player_id="28723" first="Andrew" last="Simpson"] WR Mountainside 21’- Western Oregon landed a D2 All American. He has killed it on both sides of the football, currently leading the state in the receiving touchdowns and INTs.
.[player_tooltip player_id="28720" first="Blake" last="DeBisschop"] QB West Linn 21’- Blake had to wait his turn behind state statistical leader Ethan Coleman last season. He is an unquestioned D1 kid in my opinion, sitting at the top of the charts in Passing TDs and yards within Oregon.
.[player_tooltip player_id="108144" first="Caleb" last="Kim"] RB Sunset 22’- Kim has gone off this year, helping the Apollos to their best season in a long time. His double-digit TDs and 10 yards per carry average are only a glimpse of what he brings to the table.
.[player_tooltip player_id="28881" first="Price" last="Pothier"] RB Newberg 22’- He’s only 5-7 but this kid can play. Last week’s 299 yards and 3 TDs put him among the state leaders in rushing yards, also averaging close to a first down (10+ yards per carry) every time he touches the ball.
.[player_tooltip player_id="28882" first="Gabe" last="Olvera"] RB Lake Oswego 22’- The Lakers have had an even shorter season then the rest, but Olvera didn’t miss a beat going for 200 all-purpose in multiple games. He is legit.
.[player_tooltip player_id="28854" first="Jackson" last="Jones"] QB Tualatin 22’- Jones has the necessary demeanor and arm strength to be a successful QB at the next level. He has done well with a bunch of D1 talent on the perimeter. If there were playoffs, I could see the T-Wolves playing West Linn in the title game.
.[player_tooltip player_id="28754" first="Devin" last="Bradd"] RB North Medford 21’- The kid from down South has played 4 years of Varsity ball, starting as a freshman at Eagle Point. He went for over 300 yards and 3 TDs last week, and is once again among the state leaders in most statistical categories.
.[player_tooltip player_id="28839" first="Jordan" last="King"] WR Central Catholic 22’- As mentioned numerous times King projects as a double digit D1 offer athlete. He has had an outstanding season for the defending state champs, sitting in the top 5 in receiving yards and TDs.
.[player_tooltip player_id="110242" first="Ryan" last="Oliver"] QB Lakeridge 23’- Give the Sophomore all the credit in the world. He showed up and balled against top competition. College coaches will be spending a lot of time at the school, with the likes of him and major D1 recruits Bryson Corbin 23’ and elite 6-5 freshman Joey Olsen 24’.
.Drew Bennett WR Westview 22’- If we are talking about Oregon’s breakout player of the year it’s probably Bennett. His stock has jumped immensely and should also be considered among the state’s best on D.
.[player_tooltip player_id="28742" first="Jahleel" last="Heath"] WR Oregon City 21’- It’s somewhat deceiving with the Pioneers at (0-5) as they play a brutally tough schedule. Heath has the most receiving yards in the state, with a lot of credit going to his QB [player_tooltip player_id="28760" first="Trey" last="Martin"] as well.
.[player_tooltip player_id="28724" first="Luke" last="Borchardt"] WR Grant 21’- Borchardt has had a phenomenal season averaging close to 20 yards per catch. A lot of credit to Idaho who also landed [player_tooltip player_id="28714" first="Colt" last="Musgrave"] out of Bend, another one of Oregon’s top athletes.
.[player_tooltip player_id="110179" first="Drew" last="Rodriguez"] WR Sprague 23’- It’s rare to see a Sophomore listed among the state’s best and in the POY conversation, but he has had that type of season.
