1. West Linn (1-0)- I don’t see anyone hanging with the Lions during the spring season. They are loaded and might be even better in the future. Tualatin is solid once again and the 37-6 win speaks to WL’s dominance within Oregon. OSU got a steal with [player_tooltip player_id="28717" first="Gavin" last="Haines"] as the 6A POY favorite went for another 150 and 4 TDs.
.Mountainside (1-0)- Get used to seeing these two teams at the top of the charts. The Mavericks took out an undefeated and #1 ranked Tigard team last year in the 2nd round of the playoffs, and junior QB [player_tooltip player_id="28837" first="Brian" last="Mannion"] is the real deal. Their 49-7 victory over Beaverton will now be considered the norm in the seasons ahead.
.Central Catholic (1-0)- Give Coach Pyne and the Rams a lot of credit, showing up the way they did and blasting Jesuit 35-6, after graduating one of the best teams in state history. CC brings back a ridiculously talented group of Junior’s (2022’s) with the likes of [player_tooltip player_id="28835" first="Emar’rion" last="Winston"] and [player_tooltip player_id="28839" first="Jordan" last="King"] leading the way. That said I did not for see them handling the Crusaders in this fashion.
.Clackamas (1-0)- The Cavs are incredibly talented on both sides of the football with a handful of D1 kids on the roster. Much like CC they have one of the best 22’ groups in the region, led by major D1 talent OLB/DE [player_tooltip player_id="28840" first="Kaden" last="Ludwick"]. Canby should be considered a 5A title contender so the 32-15 win wasn’t a gimmie.
.Tualatin (0-1)- The T Wolves are still one of the top 6A teams in the state. West Linn is just that good. This is another group that will be in the state title hunt in the years to come. The 37-6 loss won’t be replicated by anyone else.6
.Jesuit (0-1)- Jesuit is young with a talented core group of Junior’s on the perimeter, and two of the state’s top Senior lineman in [player_tooltip player_id="28703" first="Charlie" last="Pickard"] and [player_tooltip player_id="28739" first="Declan" last="Quillin"]. The 35-6 loss to Central isn’t reflective of the overall talent on the roster. They will still be one of Oregon’s best.
.Sunset (1-0)- This could potentially be one of the top Apollo teams in some time. It’s unfortunate there will not be playoffs this season, as they have the ability to make a run. Their 40-0 win over a decent Sandy team speaks to the overall talent, specifically the D which had 4 INTs.
.Tigard (0-0)- Tigard will typically always be in the state’s top 10 as they are potentially the top program in Oregon from the youth on up. This might be somewhat of a down year, with QB [player_tooltip player_id="28700" first="Drew" last="Carter"] leaving play to football & basketball at Colorado. That said they still got dudes.
.West Salem (1-0)- West beat one of Oregon’s top 5A programs in Silverton 24-14. This is another unfortunate scenario as the Titans are loaded and senior heavy, with a line. [player_tooltip player_id="28761" first="Jackson" last="Lowery"] played well at QB and [player_tooltip player_id="28713" first="Holden" last="Whipple"] could go down as one of the biggest steals from a line standpoint, as he is headed to Big Sky Northern Arizona.
.Lake Oswego (0-0)- As most know LO graduates a phenomenal group of seniors, which led them to back-to-back state title games, winning one. They will be young but still very talented with the likes of the Layne brothers, [player_tooltip player_id="28863" first="Gavin" last="McGuire"] and [player_tooltip player_id="28882" first="Gabe" last="Olvera"] leading the way. Another very impressive 2022 squad.
.Lakeridge (1-0)- If there is any team who could surpass this initial ranking it would probably be the Pacers. They will feature some of the most talented 2022-2024 athletes, not just in the TRL but state wide. If the young guys figure it out quickly, I could see them being a top 5 team. The 35-20 win over OC was a nice start.
.Sheldon (0-0)- The Irish are consistently one of the top programs in the state, but they too are young. [player_tooltip player_id="28701" first="Shane" last="Schwake"] and [player_tooltip player_id="28711" first="Carter" last="Neuman"] provide SHS with two of the top O and D lineman in the state but the perimeter athletes are relatively inexperienced.
.North Medford (1-0)- Much like Lakeridge, I could see the Black Tornado finishing as one of Oregon’s top 5 teams. As referenced numerous times already look for 6-5 205 Jr. WR [player_tooltip player_id="108140" first="Bryce" last="Dyer"] to be one of Oregon’s breakout players of the year. It was a tough 27-20 win over Grants Pass that went down to the wire, but this North squad is deep
.Newberg (1-0)- Hands down one of the fastest rising teams in Oregon. The Tigers pulled off what I would call the upset of the week against #5 Sherwood 14-9. Year after year they have continued to build and it showed in week 1.
.Sherwood (0-1)- Even with the loss the Bowmen continue to be one of the best football programs in Oregon from the youth on up. Offensively they will need to make some adjustments, but the [player_tooltip player_id="28712" first="Bryan" last="Cuthbertson"] led D will be fine.
