Roshad Gonzalez, 5’10, 170, Edna Karr
A fundamentally sound cornerback prospect who will consistently play over the top of vertical concepts. Gonzalez played a ton of bail in 2020 and did a good job of fighting to not let receivers get into his blindspot. This is a physical corner who loves contact and will come up & deliver tackles in run support. If he is beat off the line, he will run to the receiver’s near hip and play through his hands. I think he’s going to continue to grow into a quality cornerback prospect over the next two seasons.
Jordan Matthews, 6’1, 170, Woodlawn
I liked Matthews’s film and liked his competitiveness even more. This is a lockdown corner who you can throw on an island at any time and will thrive. He’s shown quick feet in press coverage and good placement on his off-hand jam. He can open his hips with no issues and has overall good speed to run with faster wideouts. He eats up intermediate routes and will shoot his hand to break up passes. He’s a high effort corner who won’t quit on any play and can provide value as a tackler.
Kevin Adams, 5’10, 170, Destrehan
What stood out to me most about Adams was his ability to stay square in his peddle and read routes. He wasn’t threatened by a vertical push and knew the importance of keeping his shoulders towards the line and breaking on his man. His ability to sink his hips and change direction is pretty special. He does an excellent job of not locking on to routes in zone and waiting for another receiver to enter his deep 1/4. He lacks vertical stature, but Adams will go toe to toe with any wideout out there. I think he’s got Division one type of potential.
Mekhi Brumfield, 5’11, 155, East St. John
Not the heaviest safety out there, but Brumfield backs down to no one. Mekhi shows terrific burst and anticipation & will come down to make tackles in the box. His open-field tackling ability could be his biggest asset as he constantly came to balance to make plays in space. He’s shown tight breaks on film that will not get outside the cylinder of his body. As he continues to add weight, keep an eye on this kid, because he’s only going to get better and better.
