Continue ReadingThis past Sunday morning, a large group of quarterbacks and receivers woke up at the crack of dawn and headed out to the Sports Zone in Aurora to get a workout in. The group of coaches led by Jeff Christensen coached up a very impressive group of players. Some of them were already signed like QB’s Vincenzo Meschi Vincenzo Meschi 6'2" | 195 lbs | QB Bolingbrook | 2021 IL (Grand Valley State) and Justin Lynch Justin Lynch 6'1" | 200 lbs | QB Mt. Carmel | 2021 IL (Temple) who impressed but since they have already made their decisions, I won’t go over their their performances, although impressive. Here are the other quarterbacks that impressed me early Sunday morning.
2021 Jacob Huber, Richmond-Burton (6’1 and 202lbs) @jacob_huber22
The reigning 4A state championship quarterback went unsigned, which is mind blowing. Huber has good size and has filled out already, but could add on some weight and get around 215. Very good athleticism, bends well and has an easy throwing motion.
Unsigned but has a ton of talent @jacob_huber22 pic.twitter.com/4WJL0LvAOL

Huber would have gotten much more recruiting attention had there been a fall season. He told me he’s getting interest from Illinois as a PWO, while other D3 schools have offered. If Huber is getting interest as a PWO for the Illini, you know he’s talented enough to have more than just D3 offers. Get on this guy now!
2022 Jack Lausch Jack Lausch 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB Brother Rice | 2022 State IL , Brother Rice (6’3” and 195lbs) @jack_lausch
The second time I’ve seen Lausch and he continues to impress. A fantastic frame, great size for a QB with room to add on 15-20 pounds and not lose any of the athleticism. A smooth and easy delivery, with great leg drive, you can tell Lausch has that baseball background.
Pretty pass from @jack_lausch to @GrantLarkin1 @ThrowItDeep pic.twitter.com/juVwcZ8Mw5

Although I missed recording the throw, Lausch made a perfect back-shoulder fade throw that shows his potential. He’s got great vision, during the portion against DB’s Lausch took what the defense gave him and didn’t force anything. One rep he didn’t even throw the ball due to none of his receivers being open, using his IQ to not force a ball into coverage. Lausch could be a two-sport star in college, but if he focuses solely on football, the potential for him to be great is there.
2022 Seamus O’Connell, Stevenson (6’1 and 185lbs) @SOC5_3
The younger brother of Purdue QB Aiden, Seamus could also be a late bloomer like his brother. The arm-strength is plenty, with a throwing motion that is quick and compact. The ball comes out of O’Connell’s hands with some pace.

The footwork O’Connell showed was impressive, keeping a good balance and wide base to use his legs to throw the ball. A big spring season could see his recruitment blow up, O’Connell is a player to watch in the next few weeks.
2022 David Dorn David Dorn 5'11" | 180 lbs | QB Wheaton Academy | 2022 State IL , Wheaton Academy (5’11” and 185lbs) @David_Dorn7
One of the smaller quarterbacks, Dorn makes up for the lack of size with good arm strength and accuracy. He continues to get improve, as I have seen Dorn multiple times during this long offseason. The ball flies out of Dorn’s hands, another reason why size doesn’t matter much with his game. He extremely athletic and throws great on the run, mainly due to his good footwork, allowing him to square his shoulders and deliver the ball accurately. I am excited to see what Dorn does during his second year starting at the varsity level.
2023 Cruz Ibarra, Oswego (6’1” and 205lbs) @cruzibarra5
A name that should come up over the next couple of years is Ibarra’s. A good frame with a thick lower-half, he could continue to add weight to his upper-body and his arm strength will follow. He’s got great touch on his throws, knows when to add extra pace or to give it proper loft.
Really like the upside with @cruzibarra5 @ThrowItDeep pic.twitter.com/SqTCaHZ56z
— "The" Mike F Chen (@MikeFChen) March 9, 2021
Ibarra has a very good over the top throwing motion, gets the ball to his ear, with no tailing action. As my first time seeing him, I came away impressed. It’s time to add his to your radar as well.
2023 Ben Monahan, Hinsdale Central (6’2” and 190lbs) @Ben12Monahan
A solid frame with plenty of room to add on extra weight, Monahan showed some very good arm strength during the session. There wasn’t too much torque in his motion, the ball comes out of his hands nicely with good touch. Monahan has good footwork and balance, which sets himself up to make accurate throws.
Pretty throw from @Ben12Monahan @ThrowItDeep pic.twitter.com/NxcoeyBO5H

He is another player I have yet to see, but came away with a positive impression. Monahan most likely will be starting on the JV squad with a potential late season call-up to the varsity squad. He’s got the potential to be a very solid quarterback in the future, a great base to work from.
2023 Graham Smith, Lyons (6’5 and 200lbs) @gmismith21
Smith was the tallest quarterback in attendance and I really like the upside with him. The two-sport athlete, basketball, has a smooth motion, over the top and throws it from his ear. Good anticipation skills which leads to throws that will give receivers plenty of room to run after the catch.
Will it be football or basketball for @gmismith21 at the next level? It might be at QB @ThrowItDeep pic.twitter.com/jAnLO7ylnT
— "The" Mike F Chen (@MikeFChen) March 9, 2021
The frame is solid, as Smith has a lot of room to add on muscle in the future. He’s got the height where there is no issues seeing over linemen, the arm slot won’t see many passes tipped at the line of scrimmage. Smith will be competing for the starting varsity job, and if he wins it, watch out, he could have a huge season.
2024 Arthur Palicki, Willowbrook (6’3’ and 205lbs) @PalickiArthur
Massive for his age, Palicki has a lot going for him at the moment. There is the fact that he could start four years of varsity, which would be a very big accomplishment. I liked his throwing motion, very clean delivery. The frame is great as well, looks skinny at the moment so there’s plenty of room to add on solid weight. At such a young age, Palicki has good footwork with a strong arm. Anytime a freshman is considered for a starting varsity job, the player needs to be kept track of. Palicki falls into that category.
