These athletes have had an extended offseason because of covid and look to show how they’ve developed during that time. They have caught traction by going to camps, training sessions, and posting their progress on Twitter. Here are seven OL to know heading into the spring season.
Valen Erickson Valen Erickson 6'6" | 285 lbs | OL St. Rita | 2022 State IL 6’6 310 St. Rita HS Twitter Highlights
Starting off we’re taking a look at Mr. Erickson from St. Rita HS. He’s an aggressive player who creates running lanes and drives his feet resulting in pancaking defenders. He washes the d-line down and gets to the 2nd level blocks. He’s already gotten offers from D1 schools and has gained a lot of traction in recruiting during this offseason, look for it to gain more traction once he gets his junior year film.
Luke Dalton Luke Dalton 6'5" | 300 lbs | OL Marian Central Catholic | 2022 State IL 6’5 300 Marian Central Catholic HS Twitter Highlights
Next up we’re taking a look at Mr. Dalton from Marian Central Catholic HS. He gets to the 2nd level blocks, creates running lanes, and holds his own in pass protection by staying square. He plays through the whistle where he keeps his feet driving resulting in pancaking the defender and is aggressive in his playstyle. I’ve gotten to see Dalton in action at camps where each time he improves from his last performance. The ceiling is high for him as he’s only been playing football for two years and has a lot of raw talent. Once he gets his junior film in, expect Dalton to have many offers come his way.
Jimmy Liston Jimmy Liston 6'4" | 310 lbs | OL Fenwick | 2022 State IL 6’4 300 Fenwick HS Twitter Highlights
Mr. Liston is from Fenwick HS. He gets hands-on quickly and uses this to his advantage neutralizing the defensive threat. He has the strength to overpower the defensive lineman, plays through the whistle, and creates running lanes. Overall, Liston gets it done in the trenches with his aggressive play and dominant performance from last season.
Deuce McGuire Deuce McGuire 6'5" | 290 lbs | OL Marist | 2022 State IL 6’5 260 Marist HS Twitter Highlights
Mr. McGuire is from Marist HS. He gets to the 2nd level blocks, pancakes in the run game, and keeps the pocket clean in the passing game with his footwork. Mr. Butler is from Hillcrest HS. He creates running lanes, drives his feet resulting in pancaking the defender, and holds his own in pass protection forcing the outside rush. In both the run and passing game he gets his hands up quickly and on the defender to neutralize the defensive threat. Overall, Butler has been putting in the work this offseason and once he gets his junior film it will help his recruiting gain traction by showcasing his development from last season.
Tony Machado 6’1 215 Palatine HS Highlights
Mr. Machado is from Palatine HS. He plays through the whistle, gets to the 2nd level blocks, and is aggressive at the point of attack. He’s able to block in open space when pulling and keeps his feet driving pancaking defenders. Haven Hatfield 6’3 220 Tuscola HS Twitter Highlights
Mr. Hatfield is from Tuscola HS. He holds his own in pass protection forcing the outside rush, creates running lanes, and gets to the 2nd level blocks. He creates running lanes, blocks in open space, and gives effort on each play. Overall, once Hatfield gets his junior film showcasing his development his recruiting will gain traction and it will help get his name out there.
For these OL most already have offers at the next level while others are still awaiting their junior film before offers come their way. Either way, all of the names on this list should be on coaches radars as they can have an impact on your program for the better. Keep an eye on the guys without offers as they’ve got a lot to prove this spring and look to showcase what they can do.
