Ranking Climbers from Class of ‘22
In this article:
After adding 50 more players and reevaluating the Class of ’22; these 10 players made significant jumps in the rankings, and they raised their stocks heading into the ’21 season.
Jackson Davis Jackson Davis 5'10" | 200 lbs | LB Olathe North | 2022 State KS – Olathe North, 5’10”, 185, LB (Ranked No. 41)
Explosive can easily describe the way Davis plays. He can cover ground in a hurry, and he’s a heavy hitter once he meets ball carriers. Davis jumped 17 spots in this latest update. Look for him to be one of the leading tacklers in the state this season.
Braydon Wickliffe Braydon Wickliffe 6'1" | 275 lbs | DL Goddard | 2022 State KS – Goddard, 6’1”, 275, DL (Ranked No. 48)
Wickliffe made the biggest jump out of all the Class of ’22. In this update he climbed 80 spots to his No. 48 rank. Wickliffe had a breakout year in 2020, racking up 73 total tackles, five sacks, one forced fumble and three blocked field goals. He should be in line for an All-State senior year.
Brandt Cox Brandt Cox 6'1" | 195 lbs | RB Salina South | 2022 State KS – Salina South, 6’1”, 195, RB (Ranked No. 60)
With this update Cox climbed 11 spots and he’s the 8th ranked running back in this upcoming senior class. He is a downhill ball carrier that can run between the tackles, and he shows flashes of being a solid receiver out of the backfield. I’d expect for Cox to be an important piece in the Cougars’ offense this fall.
Terrell Elliot Terrell Elliot 6'2" | 305 lbs | DL Garden City | 2022 State KS – Garden City, 6’2”, 285, DL (Ranked No. 69)
Elliot will be a must watch player this fall. He is an absolute force off the edge. His strength and his frame make him difficult to block, and he is quick for his size. Elliot climbed 15 spots in this update, and he’ll continue climbing as he draws more Division I interest.
Gabe Martin Gabe Martin 5'9" | 195 lbs | RB Columbus | 2022 State KS – Columbus, 5’10”, 190, RB (Ranked No. 85)
Martin came close to averaging a first down every time he ran the ball this past season. He rushed for 1,244 yards; averaging 8.3 yards per carry and scored 17 total touchdowns. Martin shows good vision and he explodes through the hole, and he is tough to bring down once he gains momentum. He climbed 13 spots in this update.
Sam Culp Sam Culp 6'5" | 245 lbs | OL Sedgwick | 2022 State KS – Sedgwick, 6’5”, 215, DL (Ranked No. 95)
This rangy defensive end leaped 23 spots in this latest round of player rankings. Culp is a 5-tech that shoots gaps well, and he does a good job of extending his long arms to keep offensive lineman off him. Look for Culp to elevate his game this season.
Jack Meylan Jack Meylan 5'11" | 170 lbs | WR Shawnee Mission NW | 2022 State KS – Shawnee Mission Northwest, 5’11”, 170, WR (Ranked No. 99)
After showing his play making ability in 2020; Meylan should be in line for a bigger role in Northwest’s offense this season. He can make difficult catches, line up at multiple spots on offense, and he runs crisp routes. The Cougar wide out climbed 20 spots in this update.
Hunter Long Hunter Long 6'4" | 230 lbs | TE Campus | 2022 State KS – Campus, 6’4”, 230, TE (Ranked No. 111)
Long is one of the best blocking tight ends in this class. His size and strength allow him to plow through edge defenders. Long shows good upside as a receiving tight end as well, and he should see more targets this season. He’ll look to crack the Top 100 in the next round of updates.
Zach Morford Zach Morford 5'10" | 210 lbs | LB Wichita Northwest | 2022 State KS – Wichita Northwest, 5’10”, 210, LB (Ranked No. 120)
The Grizzlies have produced some talented defenders, and Morford is nothing short of that. Morford shows sound fundamentals as a tackler, and he does a great job of reading where the play is going. This backer jumped 27 spots from his previous rank.
Ben Danaher Ben Danaher 6'0" | 205 lbs | LB Shawnee Mission South | 2022 State KS – Shawnee Mission South, 6’0”, 205, LB (Ranked No. 124)
Danaher climbed 14 spots and is ranked 15th in a solid linebacker class. He is a backer that shows good instincts, and he is like a bull when he blitzes. Danaher will look to build off his All-Sunflower League Honorable Mention season in 2020 and shoot for an All-State caliber senior campaign.
