These athletes have had an extended offseason because of covid and look to show how they’ve developed during that time. They have caught traction by going to camps, training sessions, and posting their progress on Twitter. Here are the eight QBs to know heading into the spring season.
Keegan Glover Keegan Glover 6'0" | 170 lbs | QB Benton | 2022 State IL 6’0 165 Benton HS Twitter Highlights
Starting off we’re taking a look at Mr. Glover. Glover is a name that has had his stock rise tremendously by going to showcases, camps, etc., and showing off his skillset at them. He has a nice arm and can get it done with his feet in the ground game. He has a touch on the deep ball putting it in the receiver’s basket and is elusive when running the ball. Glover has gotten on many scouts’ radars heading into this spring season, what’s left is getting the junior season film for college coaches to join in.
Jack Lausch Jack Lausch 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB Brother Rice | 2022 State IL 6’3 195 Brother Rice HS Twitter Highlights
Mr. Lausch only played 4 games at QB last season for Brother Rice, those four games being at the end of the season where his skillset came to light. He showcases his skills by running the read-option, getting the ball out fast, and being able to throw on the run. He’s shifty/elusive when he’s running and has his footwork/passing mechanics in check. This is going to be the first full season for Lausch at QB, he’s been putting in the work this offseason and looks to showcase what he can do once the spring season starts.
Kaden Cobb Kaden Cobb 6'3" | 180 lbs | QB Fenwick | 2022 State IL 6’3 200 Fenwick HS Twitter Highlights
Mr. Cobb is a stellar athlete on a loaded Fenwick offense. He’s a lefty QB that can throw on the run, put a touch on the deep ball, and has a quick release. He’s able to evade pressure and gets the throw off to his receiver downfield by putting the ball in the receiver’s basket. Cobb’s ability to extend plays is like no other, he’s a playmaker that looks to pass first and will scramble as the last resort. Overall, Cobb looks to have a great Junior year on this talented Fenwick team in this shortened spring season.
Brayden Deem Brayden Deem 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Rockridge | 2022 State IL 6’2 185 Rockridge HS Twitter Highlights
Mr. Deem has a touch on the deep ball, puts the ball in the receiver’s basket, and gets it done in the ground game. He’s mobile and breaks arm tackles when he runs the read-option, in the passing game he goes through his progressions which helps him get the ball off under pressure. He is also able to put zip on the ball and make level three throws. Deem is in the same boat as other IL athletes needing that junior year film for more offers to come his way.
Kevin Zimmer Kevin Zimmer 6'3" | 230 lbs | QB Sandburg | 2022 State IL 6’3 200 Carl Sandburg HS Twitter Highlights
Mr. Zimmer has a good year ahead of him where he will get to play a full season at QB, unlike his sophomore season that he had split between TE and QB. He puts the ball in the receiver’s basket, puts touch on the ball, and makes the intermediate to deep balls. He’s also mobile where he isn’t afraid to lower the shoulder and play through contact. Zimmer is already a top-rated wrestler in the nation, look for his stock to rise in football as well once he gets his junior year film.
Hayden Timosciek 6’7 232 Lockport Township HS Twitter Highlights
Mr. Timosciek is apart of a talented 22′ class at Lockport Township and is headed up to varsity with the talent of the 21′ class that they have. He has a touch on the deep ball, can throw on the run, and puts the ball in the receiver’s basket. He can put zip on the ball and can scramble for the first down as a last resort. Timosciek hasn’t played a down on varsity as of yet, he’s been going to showcases and plays 7 on 7. Overall, Lockport Township is going to be set at QB for the next few seasons.
Logan Frederick 6’2 165 Metea Valley HS Twitter Highlights
Mr. Frederick is a lefty QB who has a touch on the deep ball and puts the ball in the receiver’s basket. He has the footwork to make the throw on the run and deliver the ball under pressure. He’s also mobile which he uses to scramble for the first down as the last resort. Overall, once Frederick gets his junior film his recruiting will boost and gain traction.
Alec Ponder 6’1 170 Moline HS Twitter Highlights
Mr. Ponder is a transfer from Alleman to Moline. He evades pocket pressure, can throw on the run and has a touch on the deep ball. He has a quick release, gets the ball off under pressure, and makes throws in tight windows. Once Ponder gets his junior film expect his recruiting to gain traction.
These QBs are in similar boats needing their junior year film before their recruiting takes off. Each of these players has the potential to play at the next level, the only thing that’s missing is the updated film from the spring season that’s starting in a week.
