1. Jake Iloka – Pflugerville High School (Pflugerville, TX)
Pflugerville overall had an excellent season but Iloka had an eye-opening season with 858 yards and 11 touchdowns. His best game of the season was against Leander when he rushed for 256 yards and five touchdowns. Given that Iloka is just a sophomore and returned those kinds of numbers, there is a lot of potential for not just his junior season coming up, but also his senior season as well. Iloka will be a name that floats around Central Texas for years to come.
2. Demire Thompson – Bastrop High School (Bastrop, TX)
Although Bastrop struggled last season, Thompson also had an excellent season including five 100-yard plus games. In total, he rushed for 831 yards and eight touchdowns. One of the best games he had was against Travis with 112 rushing yards three touchdowns. Much like Iloka, Thompson has a lot of potential but Bastrop will need to improve overall as a team, but there is hope that the Bears will do just that as they were able to beat teams like Pflugerville Connally and Cedar Creek, and only barely lost to East View. There is potential for Bastrop to bounce back and players like Thompson will lead the way.
3. Sedrick Alexander – LBJ Austin High School (Austin, TX)
LBJ Austin mostly ran the ball with 2,336 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns total as a team, but a few players stuck out from the crowd and those players were senior Daqwon Donaldson and Alexander. Although, Alexander led all of the running backs for the Jaguars. He had 764 yards and nine touchdowns while Donaldson had 742 yards and 11 touchdowns. Considering how dominant LBJ Austin is on the ground, the experience and skillset for Alexander will just continue to grow and his numbers are already impressive.
4. Chris Goertz – Clark High School (San Antonio, TX)
Another school with more of a running game is Clark with Goertz leading the way. He had 665 rushing yards and four touchdowns, but Clark did struggle as a team last year. The Cougars faced a lot of tough losses including a 35-28 loss to Johnson to end the season and a 34-20 loss to Madison. However, much like Bastrop, these close losses could be easily turned around next season and players like Goertz will rise amongst the leaders on the team to lead that charge.
5. Cameron Cook – Stony Point High School (Round Rock, TX)
With what has been reported on MaxPreps, Cook has a lot of potential to be a running back that could turn some heads next season. In five games, Cook rushed for 615 yards and two touchdowns while also recording 156 receiving yards. Cook showcased his playmaking ability against tough teams like Round Rock when he rushed for 158 yards and also rushed for 140 yards and one touchdown against Westwood. Stony Point has some work to do in a tough district, but Cook’s name will be one to watch.
