Prep Redzone looks at the current prospect rankings for New Maryland’s 2023 recruiting class. Maryland was one state that postponed high school football until the spring. There are teams that could play a few games during the fall before having their season ended. Other schools did not play during the fall and are playing now.
Based on some research, I believe you’ll see some changes after the next rankings update by Prep Redzone. For now, let’s look at where things stand in the 2023 Maryland Football Prospect Rankings.
Today we look at Maryland’s top 2023 players from No. 30 to No. 21.
No. 30 [player_tooltip player_id="90670" first="Tyler" last="Weber"] Ι 6-2 Ι 180 Ι Quarterback Ι Chesapeake HS
Based on his 2019 film, Weber had a lot of room for improvement. We will revisit his current ranking as the No. 6 quarterback once we get new highlights.
No. 29 [player_tooltip player_id="90669" first="Jamarr" last="Ebron"] Ι 5-8 Ι 165 Ι Wide Receiver Ι Archbishop Carroll HS
Ebron flashed some of his potential as a playmaker during his freshman season. He played at the wide receiver position and also returned kicks. Ebron is the No. 2 wide receiver in his class.
No. 28 [player_tooltip player_id="90668" first="Ty’Sean" last="Helm"] Ι 6-4 Ι 240 Ι Quarterback Ι Archbishop Carroll HS
Helm is a physically gifted and intriguing prospect heading into the 2021 season. There’s not much to go on for an evaluation. I got a glimpse of his dual-threat potential, more on the running side. He is the No. 5 quarterback in the state.
No. 27 [player_tooltip player_id="90667" first="Avery" last="Jones-Allen"] Ι 6-1 Ι 190 Ι Wide Receiver Ι Gilman HS
Jones-Allen played in only two games this past fall because of the season being postponed because of COVID-19. I’ll need to see more in order to make a solid evaluation on Jones-Allen. We rate him as the No. 1 wide receiver.
No. 26 [player_tooltip player_id="90666" first="Josh" last="Lewis"] Ι Defensive Back Ι Wise HS
Lewis is the No. 10 defensive back in the state. I will do an evaluation once he’s able to play some games.
No. 25 [player_tooltip player_id="90665" first="Ashton" last="Gaddis"] Ι 6-0 Ι 195 Ι Quarterback Ι Poolesville HS
If he’s going to stay at the No. 4 position for quarterbacks, I’ll need to see an improvement in all parts of his game.
No. 24 [player_tooltip player_id="90664" first="Colin" last="Gill"] Ι 6-0 Ι 185 Ι Defensive Back Ι St. John’s (DC)
I am looking forward to seeing Gill’s progression on the football field. His freshman year highlights featured highlights of him playing mostly man-to-man defense from the cornerback position. Gill is the No. 9 defensive back in the state.
No. 23 [player_tooltip player_id="90663" first="Cedric" last="Benning"] Ι Running Back Ι DeMatha Catholic HS
There are no current highlights on Benning.
No. 22 Jamari Sommerville Ι6-0 Ι 180 Ι Defensive Back Ι Lackey HS
Sommerville did a superb job of reacting to anything that came into his zone from his cornerback position. He is the No. 8 defensive back in the state.
No. 21 [player_tooltip player_id="90661" first="Riley" last="Foran"] Ι 6-4 Ι 210 Ι Tight End Ι DeMatha Catholic HS
There are no current highlights available on [player_tooltip player_id="90661" first="Riley" last="Foran"]. He currently holds the No. 1 spot for tight ends in his class.
